Please read the Terms of Use. An instant introduction to the scope of the Francophone world, promoting French as a living language, spoken widely across the world, and featuring in the everyday life of the learning environment. There are countries or regions where a significant number of the population speak French as either their first or second language, such as Viet Nam. Each flashcards / poster shows the continent, country and capital city in French, and its national flag. There may be a number of countries and capital cities that students do not know, or are not aware of, so the word wall definitely helps them fully develop their general awareness, knowledge and understanding of Les pays francophones - students are often genuinely amazed at the scope of the French-speaking world - French is spoken on every continent! I’ve used the definite article, as I’ve found that this helps embed the concept of gender in French, and that proper nouns, such as countries, are subject to gender agreement rules too. The flashcards / posters are 8.5 x 11 (A4) portrait size. There are two backgrounds to choose from - French flag or plain, so 80 flashcards / posters in total. I always print on card stock and / or laminate my flashcards / posters, as they display much more effectively, are easier to manipulate as flashcards, and remain in excellent condition for years. PERFECT FOR CREATING AN INSTANT INTRODUCTION TO GERMAN NUMBERS IN YOUR PRIMARY GERMAN CLASSROOM - GREAT FOR READING, SPEAKING AND PRONUNCIATION PROMPTS TOO! These German Numbers 1-20 flashcards / posters create a fabulous German feel to your classroom. Using flashcards to introduce and practise language is a really successful directed teaching and learning activity. Giving your learning environment German ’look’ also promotes German as a living language, featuring in the everyday life of the school. The posters / flashcards introduce learners to Numbers 1-20 in German from the very beginning of their learning, and they are able to familiarize themselves with both the ‘look’ of German words, how those are represented in the written form, giving them the opportunity to begin to link spelling with sound in German. The posters work well with older students in their first German lessons too! I use the posters for spelling and mental maths games in German, and vocab quizzes too - the font is definitely big enough to be seen from all over the classroom. I also use the German-theme images to promote discussion about life in Germany, German traditions and so on, really getting the most from the learning display posters. There are two backgrounds to choose from - German flag or black wave, so 40 posters/flashcards in total. PRIMARY LATIN NUMBERS ROMAN NUMERALS POSTERS

(2)
PRIMARY LATIN NUMBERS ROMAN NUMERALS 1-20 POSTERS FLASHCARDS My young Latin learners love the colourful display, which give the classroom a great Latin look and feel. Giving your learning environment a Latin ’look’ also promotes Latin as a ’real’ language, featuring in the everyday life of the students. We use them for counting, spelling and memory games too. They're also ideal as flashcards, and I often use them to introduce and practise language, particularly with smaller groups, as I don't like to use the whiteboard all the time. Using flashcards to introduce and practise language is a really successful directed teaching and learning activity. I like to vary the words for Latin numbers with Roman Numerals - it's a fantastic way of developing both language and numeracy skills in general. The flashcards/posters introduce learners to Numbers 1-20 & Roman Numerals in Latin from the very beginning of their learning, and they are able to familiarise themselves with both the ‘look’ of Latin words, and how they are represented in the written form. Additionally, they provide an opportunity to create some great cross-curricular activities with maths! I’ve used some generic images, and well as some with a classical civilisation feel, which we use to discuss both Roman and Greek civilisation. There are two backgrounds to choose from: colour or black wave. Laminate and/or print on card stock - the posters will last for years, and they're definitely easier to manipulate as flashcards. It may not be copied, rewritten, shared or distributed outside your own classroom in any way. The license for purchase is a single-user license only. Please read the Terms of Use. This general knowledge quiz focuses on Europe. Students can broaden and develop their knowledge of Europe in a cooperative, communicative and interactive way, independently of the teacher. The quizzes work well as a whole-group team quiz, and are also perfect for pair or small-group activities. The quizzes are for older students, who have a more developed understanding, knowledge and awareness of the world. Some responses will be generally well-known to students, others less so, as the questions range from basic general knowledge to more specialized factual knowledge. This ensures that the activity is equally about reflecting on what students know, as it is about what they can learn. In this way, the quizzes aim not only to consolidate existing knowledge, but also to enable students to learn more about Europe. The questions and answers also provide a comprehensive framework for further exploration of Europe, which both broadens and enriches the learning experience. I generally give students multiple opportunities over the school year to play the quizzes. Before we play, I always screen a clear map of Europe, to ensure that students can visualize it in its entirety, the location of individual countries within it, and in relation to each other. This provides an important learning context for students. The quiz opens with general questions about Europe, and then moves on to questions about a range of individual European countries. There are 80 questions across two challenges: Challenge 1: 56 multiple-choice questions, with four response options to choose from. The correct response is in capital letters. Challenge 2: 24 questions in TRUE / FALSE format. Where the answer is false, students should additionally give the correct response. Some of these questions align with the topics / themes in Challenge 1, but some address entirely different ones. I usually work with this challenge after Challenge 1, as I’ve found that it maximises opportunity for learning. The questions address and topics such as: music and the Arts; daily life; famous figures; geography; history; landmarks; language and linguistics; literature; politics; science; social history; society This is the General Knowledge Europe Quiz edition of the European Day of Languages Europe Quiz #1 - please ensure you haven’t already purchased that edition. Laminate the cards if you can - they are easier to manipulate, and remain in excellent condition for years. Have a browse in my store for more General Knowledge quizzes. GERMAN CITIES WORD SEARCHES

(1)
GERMAN CITIES WORD SEARCHES - FIVE DIFFERENTIATED GERMAN CITIES WORD SEARCHES WITH ANSWER KEYS AND GRID TEMPLATE - PERFECT FOR DEVELOPING GERMAN LANGUAGE SKILLS AND DISCOVERING MAJOR CITIES IN GERMANY Word searches are great for encouraging students to engage with the written word in German - they refresh and reinforce language as they complete each grid. Students get a really good introduction to, and overview of, the geography of Germany and a range of major German cities in a slightly different way. We talk about other cities and towns students may know or discover too. With this set, each grid increases in challenge, and students can tell in which direction the words are written by looking at the arrow key. I always give my students answer keys for these types of activity - it’s an additional opportunity to engage with language, it helps them develop more independence in their learning, and they genuinely enjoy ‘correcting’ their own and especially each others’ work. The templates help students apply their knowledge of language more creatively and practically - and they can include cities they discover too. The reference sheet works well as a long-term reference resource, not just for these particular word searches. I use word searches in a range of contexts, not only when we’re looking specifically at the focus language - they’re great for starters, for free-choice activities, for sub lessons and so on. (half past) = en ville = adjectifs = conversation / questions et réponses There are 198 cards in total, and although it’s time-consuming, it’s definitely worth the time to laminate the cards, as they’re far sturdier, and last for years! I give my students a vocab workbook too, and this one has 3 differentiated challenges, as well as a full alphabetical French-English list, which we use as a year-round reference resource as well. There are 3 differentiated recall and write challenges in the workbook - my students really benefit from writing out vocabulary independently, and at their own pace - I often give multiple workbooks over a school year - it’s a really successful way of consolidating vocab, as well as practising spelling. There’s a card template too - students enjoy creating game/quiz cards for each other, applying their knowledge in a different way. Written Recall Challenge One: students write the English word /phrase from a French prompt, with all the words and phrases grouped together in the same category Written Recall Challenge Two: with this challenge, students write the words/phrases in French from an English prompt, and again, they’re all group together in the same category Written Recall Challenge Three: this final challenge ‘switches’ at each question from French to English, and lists words and phrases randomly from each category - I’ve found that this really does encourage my students to think hard about their French vocab. I use word searches a lot in my languages classroom - they're ideal for encouraging students to engage with the written word in French, and for building vocabulary. The grids are differentiated to ensure increasing challenge. The word searches are really useful when introducing the concept of verb conjugation in French - we do lots of comparison with English, and discuss both similarities and differences - this helps students think about patterns and how languages work in general. There are 5 French-French grids, and 5 English-French grids - this gets students applying French a little differently. There's additional consolidation too, as I've put a verb list in each grid that students have to complete. They like to work independently, either alone, in pairs or in small groups, challenging themselves and each other to progress through the challenges. In general, sopas de letras are a fabulous way of encouraging learners to engage with the written word in Spanish, refreshing and reinforcing language as they complete the grids. Word searches are easily differentiated too. In this set, there are five Spanish to Spanish grids, with the Spanish words as prompts. Students then find them in Spanish in the grid. A great way of really consolidating vocabulary is to get students to complete the word list on the grid sheet too. There are also five English to Spanish grids. With these, the prompt words are in English, so students have to know the correct Spanish word in order to find it in the grid. There's a word list to complete on these too. As the challenge increases, the words appear in an increasing number of different directions, and students can identify which directions they're looking for by referring to the arrow key on each grid. I have, who has? is a whole-group lively & communicative language learning game, perfect for practising, reinforcing and refreshing a range of animals in French. The game is ideal for language learning, with a multi-skill focus: listening, speaking and reading, with an important bonus focus on social interaction and participation. It’s perfect for pronunciation practice - I point out particular phonemes, sounds and accents too - such as the silent x on the plural of cheval : chevaux, and this is really useful at ***consolidating accurate French pronunciation. There are 25 animals featured in the game: bee : bird : butterfly : cat : caterpillar : chicken : cow : dog : dolphin : donkey : duck : fish : fox : frog : horse : kangaroo : monkey : mouse : owl : parrot : pig : rabbit : sheep : spider : tortoise / turtle All the animals may not be in my immediate or longer-term learning plan, but the learning objective of the game moves beyond simply learning or consolidating individual units of vocabulary or practising particular grammar points: it’s about actively learning new language too. The images are essentially visual prompts and clues, helping students infer meaning from context. The longer and more complex sentences really help students focus on reading out loud accurately, and think more carefully about language, and how to pronounce it correctly. There is implicit input on grammatical concepts such as singular and plural, adjectival agreement, gender, definite, indefinite and partitive articles and position of adjectives, either preceding or proceeding the particular noun, which can differ from language to language: I’ve found this is really useful for students who may be learning more than one language at a particular time. This is a very successful way of really getting the most of what looks like a straightforward game for consolidating the target vocabulary - it is actually so much more. Laminate the cards if you can: they're more learner-friendly, and last in excellent condition for years, so you'll be able to use them over and over again. The games and activities are a really successful alternative to more traditional ‘vocabulary drilling’ exercises. Students can develop, embed, reinforce and refresh their core Spanish verbs vocabulary in a cooperative, communicative and interactive way, independently of the teacher. The game cards and accompanying Recall & Write activities have a bonus multi-skill focus on listening, speaking, pronunciation, reading, writing and spelling. It doesn’t matter if any of the verbs don’t feature in your medium or even longer-term learning plan: this is a great way of encouraging your students to engage with new language, and to build their vocabulary at the same time. This prepares them really well for creative activities in Spanish - they will have a rich vocabulary to choose from. The Reference, Recall & Write workbook has 18 pages. It includes an alphabetical Spanish-English reference list of all 99 verbs. Students find this really useful as a learning support resource, and it comes in very handy for quick vocabulary quizzes too. The Recall and Write challenges help students familiarize themselves with, and really embed, the range of verbs in the set, and also get used to reading, writing and spelling in Spanish. It’s also a great way of developing literacy skills in***Spanish***. The challenges can be done several times, as students simply cover previous responses, so they definitely get a lot of use from a single workbook. There are three differentiated recall challenges: Written Recall Challenge One students write the English verbs from a Spanish prompt, with all the verbs in alphabetical order, Spanish-English. Written Recall Challenge Two again, students write the verbs in English from a Spanish prompt, but the Spanish verbs are now in random, rather than alphabetical order. Language learners often learn or are familiar with new vocabulary in a particular order, so it increases the recall challenge by changing that order. Written Recall Challenge Three the final challenge requires students to write the corresponding Spanish verb from an English prompt. The English verbs are also in random order. This challenge really helps with vocabulary recall, which is quite challenging when vocabulary does not appear in the context of a sentence. It’s really useful for spelling in Spanish too. ¡MUCHAS GRACIAS Y BUEN APRENDIZAJE!

I let my students work with them independently at frequent intervals, both during the introduction phase, and regularly afterwards, giving them maximum opportunity to consolidate the vocab. They like to create game/quiz cards for each other with the card template. The vocabulary groups are: = les pays = les nombres 61-80 = Quelle heure est-il ? (o’clock) = les adjectifs = la nourriture et les boissons = conversation There’s a reference workbook too - my students always benefit from the chance to write out vocabulary, which helps them practise and embed the vocab - there are 3 differentiated recall and write challenges, with an alphabetical French-English reference list - we use this as a year-round reference resource as well.
