Scrooge in 'A Christmas Carol': engaging revision lesson with full model answer
A super clear 47 slide powerpoint which takes a class through the transformation of Scrooge in ‘A Christmas Carol’.
There are plenty of opportunities for short, focused activities by the student, including exercises which help students analyse quotations closely for AO1, AO2 and AO3.
The activities lead neatly into an essay question based on an extract from Stave 5, with step-by-step guidance about how to successfully write a response.
It finishes with a complete model answer.
This is suitable for the AQA and Eduqas exam boards but can easily be adapted for other exam boards.

IGCSE Edexcel Poetry: War Photographer and Blessing
‘War Photographer’ by Carol Ann Duffy and ‘Blessing’ by Imtiaz Dharker
This is a colourful document in the form of a super clear grid that shows students how to compare the poems using the themes of strong images/ strong feelings/ challenging situations. The grid can easily be used to write about other themes from the poems.

It is really useful for effective revision. I created this for a student who went on to get a grade 9 just using this (and others I have made) as her revision aid.
Guilt in 'Macbeth': revision lesson with sample answer (AQA/OCR)
A super clear, colourful 43 slide powerpoint that covers the theme of guilt in ‘Macbeth’. This works best as a lesson after the class has read the whole play.
There are plenty of opportunities for students to work individually, in pairs or small groups, depending on the class dynamics. There are sample answers for all tasks and engaging activities which help students improve their skills.

Eduqas Language GCSE Reading Paper: full walkthrough
A colourful, superclear powerpoint (58 slides) that takes students through the reading paper for Eduqas GCSE Language Paper 2.
The powerpoint is really detailed and it takes me two hours to teach it to a class, especially if I ask them to write every answer. Activities are very structured to allow all students to be able to access the questions. I have included indicative content, sample paragraphs, part answers and one full mark answer to model how to get the maximum marks.
The texts used are accessible and engaging: Orwell’s account of shooting an elephant and an extract from the autobiography of the head keeper of London Zoo in 1898.
The powerpoint is excellent preparation for mocks but could also be used for Year 9 students beginning on their pathway to GCSE.

The extract is from ‘The Last Night’ . There are plenty of opportunities for short, focused activities by the students and also a ‘moving up the levels’ illustration of how to analyse language and structure closely.
It finishes with two detailed essay plans that model how to approach the question in the exam, covering all the assessment objectives.

Eduqas Unseen Poetry
A really clear 30 slide powerpoint that takes students step-by-step through the unseen poetry questions of the Eduqas exam board. It uses two lovely, accessible poems that deal with the relationships between a child and an older person.
The first half of the powerpoint tackles the single poem using ‘Praise Song for My Mother’ by Grace Nichols and includes a sample top mark answer.
The second half then helps students develop the skills to compare the poems, using ‘Mother any distance’ by Simon Armitage. There is a sample essay plan and a sample top end paragraph.
I have used this powerpoint many times with my students and it works really well.
It can easily be used for the AQA unseen poetry question and, with a little adaptation, for Edexcel.

A super clear 44 slide powerpoint that takes students through the skills need for Eduqas English Language Paper 2.
Includes: colourful 1 hour powerpoint that centres around covering and answering a mock exam-style paper based on GCSE English Language Paper 2. There are sample answers or part answers for every question.
The powerpoint could be extended over 2 lessons if need be if students write their own answers in timed conditions to help with exam practice.
The questions focus on two engaging sources: a modern piece with a schools inspector looking round a perfect school and a lively diary of a Victorian teacher in a ragged school.
I’ve used this many times with my students and it works really well.

Themes + Characters for 'An Inspector Calls': revision + sample essays
This is a bundle of 12 powerpoints which thoroughly cover the characters and themes in ‘An Inspector Calls.’
Each powerpoint covers a theme or a character. They are all super clear and colourful, each one consisting of at least 40 slides that guides the class through the characters and themes from the start to the end of the play.
There are lots of activities for the students which can be completed as a class, in groups/ pairs or individually. There are answers on separate slides to all questions/activities.
Use of short key quotations allow plenty of opportunities for students to closely analyse language.
Additionally, there are also some ideas for top-level context and exploring the text in different ways which helps students reach the highest grades.
Each lesson finishes with two essay questions so teachers can choose the one they need to teach according to their exam board.
One is an essay question which follows the format of AQA and Edexcel. There is a full top level answer as well for students to read.
One is with an extract-based exam paper suitable for Eduqas students. This includes detailed slides showing how to annotate, how to plan and, really usefully, an example of a top level answer.
So in total, there are 12 lessons and 12 sample essays. Depending on how much you want students to write, these 12 powerpoints will take 12-24 hours in the classroom

Modal Verbs : fun activity to teach modal verbs
This is a simple guessing game teaching modal verbs.
The game takes minimal set-up from the teacher; you just need to print and cut up 2 slides of the power point. Students really enjoy this and it’s designed so that all children can be fully engaged.

A Christmas Carol: revision game
This is a game that is easy to set up and fun to play. It’s very similar to ‘Articulate’ or ‘Don’t Say a Word’ so it’s interactive and entertaining.
All you need to do is print off the cards and cut them up (a 5 minute job) and then it’s ready to play. Once this is done, the cards can be reused for other classes and lessons.
My students really enjoy this game. We play with other texts as well and it’s a good break from mind maps and timed essays etc.
