Areas of Flags

Areas of Flags

(88)
3 Lessons of Powerpoints and Worksheets covering the areas of Rectangles, Triangles, Parallelograms and Trapeziums. The pupils have to find areas of different colours on national flags which are all the above area, and also using other mathematical topics. You will need to write on the powerpoints quite a bit on the starters, plenaries and examples! If you like this resource then please check out my other stuff on here! Thank you to @1hannahjones for making a number of corrections and clarifications! See here an extra lesson for circles! https://www.tes.com/teaching-resource/areas-of-flags-with-circles-11164206
Plotting Quadratic Graphs

Plotting Quadratic Graphs

(102)
Pupils are shown how to plot Quadratic graphs including both positive and negative x-squared coefficients. Has a few examples of where they may be used to model motion. If you like this resource then please check out my other stuff on here!
Plotting Straight Line Graphs

Plotting Straight Line Graphs

(93)
In this lesson, student learn how to plot straight line graphs by using a table of values. There is a sheet of questions that they can get straight into without having to draw out axes. In addition, there is a good question about investigating what happens if you switch the x and y values in an equation, which should lead to some nice discussions and discoveries! If you liked this resource then please check out my other stuff on TES! (updated 5/2/17) https://www.tes.com/teaching-resources/shop/Owen134866
Scale Drawings of Buildings
Owen134866Owen134866

Scale Drawings of Buildings

(24)
Pupils have to use the heights of one building to estimate the heights of others, and produce sketches of several well known buildings to scale. If you like this resource then please check out my other stuff on here!
Prime Decomposition, HCF and LCM
Owen134866Owen134866

Prime Decomposition, HCF and LCM

(66)
Calculating the HCF and LCM of 2 (or more) numbers by using Prime Decomposition and Venn Diagrams. Includes some worded questions and follows on from the other Prime Decomposition lesson I have on the TES site. If you like this resource then please check out my other stuff on here!
Car Hire Graphs
Owen134866Owen134866

Car Hire Graphs

(5)
Lesson on plotting graphs of two Car Hire companies and interpreting the shape of the graphs and what their 'features' actually mean. If you like this resource then please check out my other stuff on here!
Inequality Graphs
Owen134866Owen134866

Inequality Graphs

(143)
2 Lessons, one on drawing graphs to show regions that satisfy 1 or more Inequalities. The second is in reverse, being given a region and identifying which Inequalities satisfy it. Includes sheets that go with the lessons. The pupils will need to have covered the equation of a straight line in order to do lesson 2. If you like this resource then please check out my other stuff on here!
Making Shapes with Graphs

Making Shapes with Graphs

(2)
Pupils are shown how to describe Horizonal, Vertical and some basic Diagonal lines (such as x = 1, y = -2, y = x etc...) They then use these lines to create shapes on a coordinate grid, ensuring they label the lines every time... If you like this resource then please check out my other stuff on here!
Prime Decomposition
Owen134866Owen134866

Prime Decomposition

(41)
Single lesson on Prime Decomposition, including worksheet with some different types of pattern to spot, such as powers of decomposed square numbers. Also a simplified explanation of how banks use Prime numbers. There is a link in the plenary that shows (at least for my classroom PC!) that computers find it hard to break down even numbers with 8+ digits, never mind 200!) If you like this resource then please check out my other stuff on here!
Mental Arithmetricks
Owen134866Owen134866

Mental Arithmetricks

(4)
Three lessons on showing pupils some methods of doing 2 digit multiplications mentally (such as using the difference of 2 squares). I've not gone into the Vedic method here although it could be a good 4th lesson to show them how to multiply any two 2-digit numbers. The numbers they use in these lessons satisfy certain conditions which makes the calculations easier! If you like this resource then please check out my other stuff on here!
Frustums
Owen134866Owen134866

Frustums

(30)
Lesson on calculating the Volume of Frustums, using similar shapes to work out the height of the part that has been removed. A challenging lesson for top ability GCSE pupils. If you like this resource then please check out my other stuff on here!
Faces, Edges and Vertices
Owen134866Owen134866

Faces, Edges and Vertices

(54)
Powerpoint and worksheet where pupils try to find the pattern in the number of Faces, Edges and Vertices that 3D shapes have. If you like this resource then please check out my other stuff on here!
Which games are worth it?
Owen134866Owen134866

Which games are worth it?

(1)
Lesson on using Probability to decide whether games are worth playing, based on the cost of playing and the potential winnings. If you like this resource then please check out my other stuff on here!
Making a Magic Square
Owen134866Owen134866

Making a Magic Square

(0)
Based on a 10 Ticks sheet, the pupils make a magic square by substituting numbers into very simple expressions. Also explains Algebraically why it works! This could be extended into 4x4 squares for higher ability groups. If you like this resource then please check out my other stuff on here!
Histograms Lessons
Owen134866Owen134866

Histograms Lessons

(145)
Powerpoints and Worksheets for 2 lessons on Histograms. One where the pupils learn to draw them and one with a recap of drawing as well as how to interpret some simple questions. Some can be done directly from the board with pupils discussing how to answer the questions given. If you like this resource then please check out my other stuff on here! https://www.tes.com/teaching-resources/search/?f=authorId%5B2095097%5D
Fibonacci Algebra
Owen134866Owen134866

Fibonacci Algebra

(35)
Powerpoint and sheet on using Algebra to solve problems relating to the Fibonacci sequence. The second type of question is very impressive if you get the hang of doing it mentally in front of a class! If you like this resource then please check out my other stuff on here! EDIT 21/5/13: Added a better 3rd question to the presentation and worksheet, as well as an answer sheet! EDIT 2/6/13: Corrected the animation order on the starter!
Reflective Flags
Owen134866Owen134866

Reflective Flags

(5)
Pupils get given 3x3 grids and must shade any number of squares so the grid has reflection symmetry. They need to try and find the total number of ways that this is possible (they hopefully will not need as many grids are as on the worksheet). It is important that they try to be logical in the way they do it! If you like this resource then please check out my other stuff on here! Edit: Added a 12th pattern for 4 squares that I had missed!
