CVC Words-1st letter-Scavenger Hunt Fun for Reception

Make reading CVC words fun by using this easy-prep phonics scavenger hunt activity. Your Reception pupils will work individually, in pairs or small groups and use their decoding and blending skills to read and match words and pictures, write the matching letters, find the mystery numbers and crack the code. This scavenger hunt focuses on the first letter in CVC words - this is the sound of a letter that most children find easiest to hear and discriminate so is the easiest to decode and read. Most young children love a game where they are active and looking for things and this scavenger hunt will be a fun way to combine this and practicing key literacy skills. Easy-Prep - Print and cut up the words and pictures and hide them around your room and/ or outdoors. Set the scene by reading the short passage and explaining what students have to do and hand out the answer sheets with a pencil and clipboard. Players find the 10 different pictures (with numbers), read the words with letters, decide which is the correct spelling and match them to the pictures. They record the letters underneath the number (of the matching picture) on the answer sheet which will give them 3 words - the mystery code. You will get: 10 pictures 40 words - students choose the correct spelling - each picture has 4 spelling options. SUMMER Bookmarks to Colour Encourage reading by personalizing bookmarks, get your students excited about describing their favourite book, writing a short story or poem, remembering the times tables with these easy-prep activities. Maths - stop the ‘summer slide’ by giving them a couple of times table bookmarks to color in and use for their summer reading books and times tables Reading - talk to them about books for summer holiday reading, ask them to list the titles they are planning to read.
