Pupils assess the effect of a series of sentence openers, they then break down the differences between the sentence openings, before creating their own story using a stimuli, which has built up from previous activities.

An 8 page hand-out deigned to guide pupils through the process of writing a commentary for their original writing.
This includes: a two page guide on how to structure a commentary (including key questions to promote individual analysis); an assessment task where examples of varying grades have been given and pupils have to allocate grades using the marking criteria and self assessment grid to ensure all of the basic frameworks of language have been covered.

A fast paced and engaging full lesson providing GCSE 1-9 grades for pupils to self-assess their own work.
The lesson begins with a recap of descriptive techniques with a worksheet which pupils can complete individually or in pairs. Pupils then assess exemplar pieces of writing according to the 1-9 framework. The main task pupils will produce their own piece of descriptive writing (describing a chocolate bar) using the example provided. The final task is a structured peer assessment task, where pupils provide feedback for their pairs.
