The perimeter is the total of all the side lengths of a shape added together and the area is the amount of two dimensional space a shape occupies. In this lesson, students will work on the objectives:* recognise that shapes with the same areas can have different perimeters and vice versa and recognise when it is possible to use formulae for area of shapes*. In this lesson, students will learn how to calculate the area and perimeter of rectilinear shapes, understanding how formulae can be used. They will work on finding the area of real life buildings to help put their learning into real life context during the teaching input through an engaging power point presentation. They will then complete activity sheets which require them to find the area and perimeter of rectilinear shapes through reasoning and problem solving.
