Very big lesson (I ran it over two hour with year 10). The lesson start but looking at the definition of a parasite via a couple of videos. There is then a hinge point question that leads into a mini SOLO task. This is followed by an exam question and model answer to discus the marks and key points. The task then turns to mutualist looking at the species that are recommended on the exam spec. The lesson finishes with an exam q.

The lesson starts with a 10 question recap quiz before looking at different ways to obtain drinking water. Students that have a look at the water cycle, led by the teacher, before students look at clouds in a practical way. Student then have a go at making water stills. The lesson returns to exam spec questions finishing with an exam question.

We all know that a big problem for low confidence lower ability students are their levels of literacy. This is my attempt to close the gap on the literacy deficit of some of our student. This activity comprise of 3 different task based around the key language of CB6. The first activity is dual coding where students draw images of the key words. The next is a match up activity and the final is an MCQ task. Really interested to hear your thoughts.

With the time constraints we have left here is CB6 in two lessons. This does not cover the higher content but will ensure the basics are understood. I have included a more detailed plant cell adaptations lesson and a literacy intervention I am trialing with some success.

Over arching concepts in biology. The lesson is part of a series of lessons that cover topic one of the new GCSE (to be sat in 2017). The lesson is a maths for biology focused lesson which involved a series of calculations for magnification (3 levels of differentiation) followed by a hinge point question leading into a series of calculations on scale and perceived size. The demonstrate activity is a student choice of difficulty to solve a biological problem. The lesson concluded with an exit ticket.
