Greek Myths: The Context of Ancient Greece
This interesting and highly-stimulating lesson enables students to gain a clear understanding of key information regarding the historical and cultural context of Ancient Greece. They also learn to logically organise the key information that they gather, and make clear links between Greek myths and their newly-gained understanding of context. This lesson enables them to construct a solid foundation of contextual understanding for future deeper learning of Greek myths.
The lesson follows a clear, logical, bite-size learning journey, which guides students towards differentiated learning objectives. Over the course of this journey, they become able to:
- Read and interpret key information regarding Ancient Greek gods, geography, culture, and landmarks;
- Share their understanding through engagement in a jigsaw model task;
-Order key events in Ancient Greek History through the creation of a dated timeline;
- Link their understanding of historical and cultural context to an independently-researched Greek Myth;
-Peer assess each other’s learning attempts.
This resource pack includes:
- A visually engaging whole-lesson PowerPoint presentation;
- Key information sheets on Ancient Greek gods, geography, culture, and landmarks;

Introduction to the Aztecs - Upper KS2 Reading Comprehension Lesson!
This whole class reading session aims to develop children’s fluency and comprehension skills through reading an informative text introducing them to the Aztecs (the text is a National Geographic information text - link and PDF included).
The reading is followed by a series of activities aiming to develop children’s VIPERS skills: vocabulary, inference, prediction, explanation, retrieval, sequencing and summarising. It also contains a vocabulary check immediately after the extract is read to clarify any unfamiliar/ difficult language.
The tasks are comprised of quick-check questions, solo thinking, pair/ group discussions and deeper thinking activities. The extract needed is provided as a PDF and a link to a web-based version is also included on the first slide.
The session is best suited for children in upper KS2, although with minor adaptations it could feasibly be used with slightly younger and older age groups.

Victorians Non-Fiction Guided Reading Texts and Activities!
Included in this resource pack are three non-fiction information texts, with corresponding activities, about the following areas of Victorian life:
-Life for Rich and Poor Victorian Children;
-Chimney Sweeps;
-The Life of Queen Victoria.
The activities aligned with each text become progressively more difficult, allowing children to showcase different skills, including: retrieving, interpreting, inferring, identifying, analysing, evaluating and creating. This enables you to tailor the learning to children’s individual needs.
All files are provided as PDFs and Word files (in the zip files). I have previously used these resources with Year 3, 4, and 5 children.

Martin Luther King Jr. - KS2 Whole Class Reading Session! (original text included)
This whole class reading session aims to develop children’s understanding of the social activist Martin Luther King Jr., whilst also developing a range of comprehension skills when reading non-fiction texts.
The resource pack contains a comprehensive and original knowledge organiser-style reading text, in addition to an extract from the 1963 ‘I Have A Dream’ speech. It also contains a colourful and thought-provoking PowerPoint presentation, which develops learning through a range of retrieval, explanation, inference, prediction and summarising skills.
