Good for revision for speaking exams. Pupils can do this in pairs. In advance, choose the topics or sub-topics. Their partner decides if their answer is good enough. If so, they colour in the segment in the relevant colour. If not, they discuss why and may try again. This is just one of many possible activities.

Pupils work in pairs. They test each other on a set list of vocabulary, shuffled up (maybe on cards). One pupil throws a dice and moves that many spaces. Whichever number they land on, their partner asks that question. Works in the same way as ‘Snakes & Ladders’!

5 Resources
Introduce the directions in German and give pupils the handouts for note-taking. There is also a completed handout for weaker pupils, so they can concentrate on the presentation. Then pupils complete the worksheet and finish the lesson with noughts and crosses. There is also a hangman starter for the following lesson!

French A level taster session - new AQA specification

(1)
This bundle of resources includes a PPT to introduce the new French A level from AQA, followed by an activity using a popular song in the French charts. There is also a worksheet to go with the song activity. The booklet is designed to accompany the PPT and includes information about the new A level in French from AQA. Remember, you may need to edit such information as the number of teachers and lessons. This is on page 2. There is reference to resources on Kerboodle as well, which of course will not be relevant to your students, so you may wish to delete/edit these parts.

Use the template to get pupils to guess the blanked out word in the headline. You could also use this HIGNFY template to do ‘reading images’. Pupils discuss what’s in the picture and give it a headline. Simply insert a photo of your choice in the top of the slide! You could use it to give pupils options of headlines or give them a headline and they have to choose the appropriate image.

French - Time zones worksheet

This worksheet practises telling the time in French, using various time zones around the world (e.g. If it's 8 o'clock here, what time is it in Beijing?) Time zones and differences in time compared to London are given at the top of the sheet. You could inform students that 'UTC' stands for 'Universal Time Coordinated', previously known as 'Greenwich Mean Time'. Another cross-curricular link!

Use this PPT to introduce the weather in French. To start, the weather is shown on a map of France. It is worth looking at the patterns of language used here (il y a / il). The patterns are colour-coded. Then the vocab is formally introduced. Following this, pupils must identify the weather in French as it whizzes past.

This is an easy PPT template for you to adapt as you like. Change the side and top title bars, depending on the topic you’re doing. Click on the blue boxes to make them disappear to reveal (or not!) an explosion underneath. For variation, simply move the explosions to different squares.

Different shapes for card sorts (triangle, etc.) Fill in the vocab so that the English matches the target language when laid in a triangle like this. There is an example of this in the PPT.
