Head of Year Overview - Key Job Description Roles Responsibilities

(1)
This is a document compiled from various Head of Year job descriptions, as well as my own knowledge of what is required of Heads of Year as they move through the year groups. I have also included an overview of the characteristics often associated with Heads of Year. This is a document compiling other sources of information and so is not an ‘original’ from me - simply compiled to help others. It is helpful if you are considering what a Head of Year role might include. However, it is important to remember all roles are different and each school will view the role differently. Common Pastoral Head of Year - Head of House - Abbreviations List

In the role of head of year or head of house, perhaps one of the most confusing things I found was wrapping my head around the various different abbreviations and acronyms. As such, I thought it would be useful to compile the ones that are most common into one PDF. Please note, these are not exhaustive - they are the most commmon ones in my experience. Student Staff Log Concern Cards - Wellbeing Pastoral Issues Friendship Bullying

(0)
In this resource you will find ready to use ‘concern cards’. These are cards which can be used by staff and by students to ‘log’ concerns with form tutors or heads of year. Cards can be kept in a space outside an office alongside a lockable box or safe space. Students or staff can then complete the cards to refer a concern. These are then picked up by head of year and they decide who can deal with the concern. These can be used by staff or students to refer other pupils or by pupils to self refer. These have been used successfully and with impact. Please follow me on: facebook.com/teachcoach
