This worksheet is aimed at Y5 and looks at the effect of multiplying by 10. The worksheet encourages place value grids. Pupils will see the effect of multiplying by 10. Subsequent questions build on this as pupils move through the exercise. Similar concept can be used for dividing by 10, which should help pupils then generalise about multiply by 100 and 1000.

This resource is great if you have been using counters as a concrete model before moving onto pictorial and abstract.

This worksheet is part of our November resources competition. This activity could be used when moving from multiplying a decimal with an integer, to multiplying decimals with decimals. The purpose of the activity is to look at the relationship between the question cards in each group and discuss how they are connected and conceptually why this works.
