I am Mechelle Jacques, A secondary teacher with over 25 years experience of both science and animals. I am well known in the canine world for my curly coated retrievers and bracco italiano. I teach a lot of science and a little animal care and was the sole teacher of the BTEC Land Based Student of the Year 2017. In my spare time I work with dogs and their owners on training and behaviour problems as well as running a national breed rescue organisation.

It is expected to be used as part of the BTEC First in Animal Care, Unit Three Animal Welfare, Section B on welfare legislation. There is a PowerPoint that outlines the regulations that cover animal transport, in a student friendly way. Then there is a page of questions which vary from simple recall of the presentation to long answer, ethical questions. A simple pair of resources to cover the detail of the specification, with a little more detail for more able learners including a list of useful references for later research or coursework writing. Additional information documents from a range of sources are also added for the teacher or more able learner who would like to expand their reading.

It is expected to be used as part of the BTEC First in Animal Care, Unit Three Animal Welfare, Section B on welfare legislation. A task is set, with information from a range of sources given to support the learning and to help students to draw information from more than one source of information. A simple resource to cover the detail of the specification, with a little more detail for more able learners. It would also lend itself into the discussion on breed specific legislation. My less able learners really enjoyed this activity and I got some good learning out of it.

The work is drawn from the RSPCA and The British Council resources, some of which have been amended to work in different settings.
