This is the second lesson in a scheme of work that focuses on protest writing, with a specific focus on the Romantic movement. This lesson focuses on the peasant’s revolt of 1381 and the reasons for the discontent in the country. The students will read poetry from and about the time in preparation for learning about the Romantic movement. This A Level lesson looks at the origins of protest with what is arguably the original protest: Genesis and the Devil’s interference with mankind. This is the first lesson in a scheme of work that focuses on protest writing, with a specific focus on the Romantic movement. In this lesson, students will use prompts and their previous knowledge of the tragic genre to construct their own plan for a tragic play. Students will, after presenting their ideas, choose one scene from their play to write out in full. Includes a 10 question tragedy quiz with teacher answers.

This lesson, suitable for any KS3 class, contains activities to do with International day, including a questionnaire, a mind-mapping and a creative task.

This lesson is the second in a 3 lesson mini scheme of work on the context of Shakespearean England. However, this could easily be a stand alone lesson. This session focuses on the social classes of Elizabethan England, and where they would be positioned in the theatre. The students will complete a creative writing task from the perspective of a groundling, and then self-review against a success criteria.

This lesson, students will: Learn about the core tenets of Ramadan Consider acts of kindness and charity Create ‘acts of care’ calendars for a working wall. Though, of course, students may not be religious - it is still important to consider how acts of selflessness can help the community! Students will create their own ‘acts of care’ calendar, in which they consider gestures of charity, self-care and kindness towards family and friends that they can enact throughout the month of Ramadan. This is the third lesson in a scheme of work that focuses on protest writing, with a specific focus on the Romantic movement. This lesson focuses on the Milton and his impact - specifically the controversy of Paradise Lost. The students will Miltonic excerpts as well as quotation from other poets who Milton influenced in preparation for responding to an unseen Romantic poem next lesson. This project, best delivered to KS3, contains enough content to cover a week of learning. Included is a teacher instruction pack that contains the learning goals. This fun task will test students’ problem solving and memory skills. This escape room is accessible for grades 6-8, while still providing enough challenge for some sets in year 9 and 10 to enjoy. The lesson includes: Level One: Unlocking Juliet’s Diary Level Two: Love Letter Clues Level Three: Mixing a Death Potion Level Four: Key to Escape Teacher instructions and answers can be found in the resources section of the Ppt. from slide 7 onwards.

Here, the students will follow clues around the ‘middle earth’ (the school) to lead them to the final treasure. This could work for any school that has a playground, a hall and a library!

This is a lesson that I taught a year 7 class, but as it is greatly differentiated, it offers scaffolding and challenge to all students.
