This lesson starts off with two opportunities to discuss the method of how to round numbers. The method I usually teach my class is to circle the place value column you are rounding to. For instance, if you are rounding 456 to the nearest ten , circle the 5. Then underline the number to its right and this will tell you whether you round up or down.
