An introduction to the wider topic of mental health focusing on identifying vocabulary for different emotions. Includes emotions people may feel in different situations and distinguishing between positive and negative emotions.

Ss write Hitler’s ideal qualities for a woman. Ss find information about Eva Braun. Ss discuss how well she fitted Hitler’s ideals. Ss find the same information about Hitler’s mother and consider how well she matches Hitler’s ideals. Ss write sentences comparing and contrasting with the opportunity to bring it together in a PEE paragraph. (Extra support on PEE would be required).

Questions to test young learners reading comprehension and use of English. Encouraging literacy as students complete sentences, give their opinions, and re-write the story in their own words. Ss then identify adjectives and complete a comparatives/superlatives table.

This was 6 hours work for my CLIL class of international students. An introduction to the concept of formal and informal language as well as activities for identifying and using the correct register. An introduction to entrepreneurs and USPs. Vocab and worksheet to help analyse a Dragon’s Den pitch, and then some guidance on creating their own pitch.

A gapfill for the Monkey Puzzle Song by Julia Donaldson on YouTube. The missing words are available in a box with a picture prompt for differentiated support. There is also a worksheet for Makaton signs for animals from the story. This took my class a full hour. We listened to the song to enjoy it. Then we listened twice to do the gapfill. Then we read through the song lyrics in feedback to check our answers. Then we sang the song two times - trying with actions the second time! Then we discussed what Makaton was and made the signs and guessed which animals from the story they could be. Then the students drew their own pictures of the animals next to the signs.

A student sits with their back to the board. A word appears on the board behind them. The members of their team can each give a one-word clue to help the student guess the word behind them.

A simple worksheet to help Ss identify informal/formal linking words. Categorise their function and then apply to some gap-fill sentences. Ss can then use this knowledge to try to write some of their own sentences using informal linking words in open practice.

A short presentation on the power of laughter for the body and soul. A brief introduction to laughter yoga and encouragement to try. Should be a good start to the day with students finding funny. Used for a small school assembly roughly 80 students. Could last between 10-20 minutes.

A PPT lesson guiding students through what a relative clause is, creating relative clauses, and how to use them to good effect in creative writing. This took my international students 2 x 1 hour lessons, but for native speaking students it may be a bit lesson, but could easily be two lessons with peer reviewing of creative writing and feedback etc.

Designed for international students studying Cambridge BEC/ Business English/ Business CLIL. Guides students to write a hotel review, using comparatives and superlatives. Should be roughly 6 x 1 hour lessons worth of work, but could be shortened or extended. Will need access to laptops for research - could work for an online class.

A multiple page Word Doc which guides students through understanding the difference between prediction, skimming, scanning, gist, summarising and reading for detail. It then guides students through different tasks encouraging them to use the different skills. There is an article about VAR for them to use apply all the skills to at the end. This was a full hour’s work for my class.

A PPT which introduced vocabulary for describing different types of music, as well as introducing phrases for giving opinions and different statements to discuss.

Cut and Stick activity for identifying different spellings of vowel diphthongs sounds in phonics.

Cut out and match the jobs to their descriptions. The jobs and descriptions come ready muddled so the students can cut them out as part of the activity if you need a time-saver!
