Year 6 PSHE & Citizenship Lesson - It's OK to be Different

This is a Year 6 PSHE and Citizenship lesson about valuing differences, which focuses on the ways in which people are different to each other and why it is so important to respect this. Children can discuss what being different means to them, before exploring some ways in which we can acknowledge and value people’s differences. An independent or group task is also provided to reinforce the learning from the lesson. The lesson is aimed at Year 6 but could also be used across upper Key Stage 2. It is fully resourced with planning and relevant supporting materials. The timing of the lesson is approximately 45 – 60 minutes, but, depending on your PSHE timetabling, it can also be easily split into a pair of thirty-minute sessions. A topical lesson for KS2 work related to Guy Fawkes and the Gunpowder Plot. This is ideal for some enjoyable and informative creative writing activities around 5th November. The lesson involves exploring the events surrounding the Gunpowder Plot and then using this knowledge to write diary entries by Guy Fawkes. All of the key Gunpowder Plot information and some diary writing input is included in the teaching PowerPoint. All teaching input resources, differentiated activities (challenge task & support sheets) and planning are provided as part of the pack. The flexibility of the lesson means that I have been able to use it in Years 4 to 6, but it could also be easily adapted for younger children. An enjoyable and easy-to-manage short story creative writing lesson with a Halloween theme. This pack is designed for teaching 1-2 English writing lessons at KS2 and is great for developing text structure, grammatical awareness and imaginative language. *Note to my previous customers: This has been adapted from my ‘Short Story Writing Lesson’. This original version has also been available in my TES shop for some time, so please check that you haven’t already bought it! The topic is writing a short story with a spooky Halloween theme. The teaching PowerPoint contains a story opening for the class to read and analyse, followed by an independent writing task, in which the children can write their own Halloween stories or complete the example story. Opportunities for the children to plan their ideas are also built in, allowing for the activity to be extended over 2 sessions. In addition, there is an optional challenge activity contained in the PowerPoint, as well as writing support sheets for any children that require them. All planning is also included in the pack. The flexibility of the lesson means that I have been able to use it in Years 3/4 and in Years 5/6.
