French GCSE Unit 1 Me, my family and friends
This topic booklet and Powerpoint is designed to be used in conjunction with the **Oxford AQA GCSEoursebook **for French. The booklet is an attempt to help make the coursebook more engaging and accessible to students and to ensure students are more organised and have everything they need for the topic in one place. Whilst the booklet provides spaces to prepare and write answers to some exercises in the textbook, there are also additional speaking and reading exercises to help build up to the exercises in the textbook or to reinforce them. This is primarily aimed at Higher Tier students but many activities can be used with upper foundation students. This would be a good tool for cover teachers or for students who need to catch up. It is also good for students who need to self-teach or who are remote learning. The teacher Powerpoint works through the booklet step by step but includes some additional explanations and games.
The pdf booklet includes the following:
Attractive layout with use of colour coding and cartoon characters.
Support through Quizlet or Wordwall activities to help drill key vocabulary ahead of reading and listening activities.
Speaking sentence builders which have the French in orange so that it can be covered up with a red acetate to help with self-testing and drilling.
Links to songs on Youtube for cultural input.
Links to my website for audio files that can be used with additional audio activities.
All links to Wordwall, audio files, Youtube resources and Quizlet activities are scannable in printed copies, or in the pdf version clickable, so students can work through the exercises on their own – perfect for schools with ipads or a ‘bring your own device’ policy.
Students can have the booklet printed in black and white whilst referring to the full-colour pdf.
Links and printouts of coursebook and AQA vocabulary. The printouts are printed with the English in orange so that it can be hidden with a red acetate for self-learning.
A bank of structure grids which can be used with a red acetate, to help students build on what they have produced in earlier parts of the booklet and to help give them ideas for producing written paragraphs.
A mock speaking card with a link to 2 hidden questions.
A series of oral questions which students have been working towards by doing exercises in the booklet, or which are backed up by structure grids in the back of the booklet.
GCSE style essay and translation tasks.
Scannable / clickable links to marking rubrics.
A score sheet / reflection sheet.
Explanations and exercises to help with most grammar points covered in the topic.

Grammarman: The Perfect Tense Booklet (French)
A 26 -page booklet on the perfect tense. This is a visually attractive booklet which explains formation of the perfect tense but also contains links to video explanations and interactive online activities to offer students support and give them the confidence to do the written exercises in the workbook. This is suitable for lower - mid secondary students KS3 / KS4. The booklet looks at ‘avoir’ and ‘être’ verbs with their irregulars, and also a brief look at negatives and reflexives. Some texts have links to native speaker audio so students can listen while they read.
Grammarman The perfect Tense Powerpoint
This is a Powerpoint which can be used independently or in conjunction with the Grammarman Perfect Tense workbook. This visually appealing resource aims at linking written work with online exercises to build confidence where necessary, before students commit pen to paper. This Powerpoint is carefully constructed with reactive elements on many pages meaning that teachers do not always have to elicit answers from students in order. There are links to explainer videos to reinforce explanations in the Powerpoint.
Snakes and Ladders (jeu de l'oie) with randomised dice (French)
This is a fully interactive snakes and ladders game on Powerpoint. It features interactive squares where you can mark a team’s movements by clicking through a sequence and an interactive dice. You just need to make up your own questions.
French Verb Drills Powerpoint
This is a Powerpoint for drilling verbs in class or to issue to students to work through independently.
The Powerpoint is non-linear and works through clicking on the relevant type of verb or specific irregular verb. Verb conjugations are listed and can be covered altogether, or independently. There is also a tense reference section, an être verbs section, and a section with the ‘je’ form of a handful of the most useful verbs in three time frames, for weaker students. it also has a slide on time expressions.
Sorry but any cartoon graphics are used under licence.
Japanese self-introduction jikoshoukai
This pack contains a Powerpoint and worksheet which takes you through a simple jikoshoukai step by step. This is intended for beginners. It also contains links to my website with authentic native speaker audio examples (tap / move your mouse to find the enable audio icon), one model and one adaptation of the model to use as a listening with a fill in the gaps exercise. By using red acetate sheets against the worksheets, you can hide the words that need to be changed in the jikoshoukai. This is presneted in romaji but there is a hiragana / kanji version of the text on the final page.
Bundle
Grammarman Perfect Tense (French) Powerpoint & Work booklet bundle
This is a bundle of the Grammarman perfect tense booklet and Powerpoint. The two may be used independently, or together. The Powerpoint goes through the perfect tense step by step with exercises that can be done from the Powerpoint or in the workbook. The Powerpoint then reveals the answers to all exercises. This starts with the very basics of the perfect tense, deals with a healthy handful of irregular avoir verbs and then the être verbs and would be suitable for KS3 or KS4 depending on students’ levels. Both the workbook and the booklet have hyperlinks and QR codes to interactive confidence-building support activities before students commit pen to paper.
French GCSE Role-play Training Resource
This Powerpoint is designed for students to drill different role-plays in preparation for the AQA GCSE French exam at higher tier.
The first slides cover how to use the Powerpoint, the format of the exam, tips and how to formulate simple questions.
Then you have a main menu with 14 different role-play tasks.
Each role-play task has 4 slides;
A context
A task, which features the bullets that would appear on the candidate’s exam card. The students can click on these for English explanations of what is required, and then a hint in English to give them ideas of what to say.
A dialogue with support. Students can click on speech bubbles to reveal the examiners exchanges. They can see the English suggested script for the student exchanges and click on each one to reveal the French. The hidden question can also be revealed.
A dialogue with no support. Here the examiners part of the dialogue is visible as before, but the students are faced with the bullets again, just as they are on the candidate card. They can use this to tesat themselves on what they prepared in the previous slide.
Cartoon characters are used under licence.
レストランで食べましょう At The Restaurant (Japanese) Power point & Worksheets
A colourful set of resources to build up to a restaurant role-play. The resources include cultural input on some aspects of Japanese food culture.
