Then goes into how to use verbs and adjectives to make the writing more powerful. Goes into detail on how to write speeches and looks into today’s modern problems around the globe so that students can choose a topic of their own to express their views on. The lesson should last around two hours, all resources are editable, can suit any lesson that needs to teach persuasive writing.

A ‘getting to know you’ resource to be used at the start of a year to help you get to know the students, with cruical questions gathered from teachers on Edutwitter. It has a section on SMART targets and is fully adaptable so it can be changed to suit subject specific targets, Comes with a cut out activity where students order the things they find most important in effective learning.

A functional skills English lesson looking at how to write all texts. Fact and opinion and writing an article. Comes with both a reading and a writing task, lasts about two hours, extension activities included. Letter writing, Email writing, Article writing, Speech Writing and Instructional Texts

A functional skills lesson based on using information to write a letter, its based on a zombie apocolypse to keep students interested, it was designed so that students go into an appropriate amount of detail when explaining their reasons. This is a lesson to prepeare students to take the level one functional skills writing exam. I had to remove video links and pictures but the resouces are adaptable for these to be included.

A starter and main activity of about 30 minutes in time the activites get steadily harder beginning with identifying word classes and connotations and then analysing and then seeing if the students can also apply it to question 4 paper 1, peer assessment table is included to close the loop, helpful hints have been placed in there to give guidence to studetns and extention activities for the more able.

A lesson based on the theme of alcohol addressing A01 and general paper 2 questions. The lesson has two sources one from 19th C and one from the 21st looks at attitudes and values. Comes complete with writing frames for students to choose from (questions 2,3 and 4) using PEACE paragraphs. Self/peer assessment included. Plenary consists of a revision sheet that goes over the skills and marks of all the questions across the GCSE English language papers. Lesson is scaffolded with extension activities with every task - everything is timed and should last two hours.

English functional skills writing based on politics using emotive language language, connectives, a spelling rule and grammatical rule, designed for a three hour lesson.

Question 4 paper 2 of GCSE English language for AQA. The theme is on money and life choices designed for a two hour lesson. The lesson objectives are scaffolded using Bloom’s taxonomy verbs. Starter - statements promoting critical thinking (with answers) Recap - Explode a quote (sample answer) Task 1 - perspective and attitude teaching and 15 minute task Task 2 - Inference about life choices and language analysis extension 15 Minute task but you can allow extra time for class discussion. Task 3 - Analysis of sample answer, students label the answer using terms from the mark scheme. Task 4 - reading of the two texts and analysis (video link as well) Task 5 - question 5 quick attempt Task 5 - Plenary students identify themes and ideas as of being 19th or 21st Century attitudes. Functional skills lesson on speech writing, looks at proofreading, planning and employability, should take around an hour and a half depending on class ability.

An English lesson based on Remembrance Day for AQA GCSE English paper 2 or any persuasive writing task. Students are shown and practice the following skills: Sentence variation Structure of paragraphs and discourse markers DAFORREST techniques How to write a letter in the correct layout. Includes a speaking and listening task on the orals and principles of war, which builds up to a writing task where students have to respond to a letter where they have been conscripted. The lesson has been designed to last about two hours if given the time to complete a full letter. All resources are editable.

DAFORREST is an acronym for persuasive writing techniques. This is suitable for anyone who is doing GCSE English language as paper 2 is all about persuasive techniques, so the ability to write and analyse these techniques is a good fundamental skill. This is also important for those who do persuasive writing for IGCE and those who are studying level 2 functional skills.

A presentation/ video with a step by step guide on how to write an article. It looks at writing headings, the 5 W’s witness statements and conclusions. There is a download available with a sample article I have written and labelled with each of the stages I wanted to include.

Functional skills lesson to prepare the students for sitting the writing exam. Looks at fact and opinion/ understanding the wording of the questions, the spelling rules and practice of Cial and Tial suffixes and the Sion and Tion rule. Also looks at using adjectives (for writing question 1) and using information from a text in the form of buying a car (writing question 2). Should last over two hours.
