What’s included? This pdf download includes x3 landscape orientation sheets featuring x7 colour ‘splats’ with colour name labels with clear step by step instructions to create colourful acetate/cellophane colours for (window) display. What’s it for? These colours have been designed to install and sense of awe and wonder - the coloured shapes look so beautiful when the sun shines through them and where the colour ‘falls’ depends on the position of the colours in relation to the sun which changes as the sun’s position changes. The set gives an opportunity to showcase the whole set of colours together as a focus to encourage learners to recognise and name each colour. The colours can of course be repositioned and displayed as you choose. I have included a ‘Colours!’ label to be displayed with the set of shapes. This resource would also support work on shadows and light/dark. Who’s it for? What’s included? x5 sheets, portrait orientation, pdf format. What’s it for? This resource has been designed to encourage learners to investigate the various lines of symmetry within x8 2D shapes. This investigation can be done by cutting/folding (ideally first) then recording these finding by drawing the lines of symmetry (using a ruler) onto the shapes on the sheet. Black and white AND colour versions of both sheets (cut/fold, drawing lines versions) included. Who’s it for? This resource has been designed for pupils in years one and two as well as older students who need to revisit this or students needing additional learning support. This resource may also be suitable for children in EYFS although with younger ages it would probably be a good idea to upscale the sheets to a larger size (on a photocopier/scanner) first. How to use it? The learner can explore lines of symmetry in two ways, either using a pencil and ruler or cutting out the shapes and folding them to investigate the lines of symmetry. Suggestion I would encourage learners to investigate the lines of symmetry within these 2D shapes by first cutting out the shapes (using the colour/black and white version designed for this - see pages 3 and 4). Once pupils have investigated these by folding they could then use pages 1/2 (colour/black and white) to record their findings with a pencil and ruler. Using safety mirrors along side cutting and folding AND when recording the ‘answers’ (using a pencil and ruler) will really help pupils to become clear and accurate in their mind as to whether they have found the line of symmetry. Important… Pupils should be encouraged to find the middle/centre of each shape first and ensure that they fold/draw a line ‘through’ this centre point in order to be accurate in their findings. Answers are included on a separate page in the same format which learners could use for quick, easy reference. This activity set has been designed to give learners an opportunity to look more closely at a set of the first 100/200 high frequency words. This set is ‘nouns’ which can be read by sounding out the words as well as matching each word with its corresponding image. This is a simple, predictable activity to promote independence and consolidate learning. This activity is ideal for individuals/groups to be getting on with independently or those needing some individual 1:1 support. Who’s it for? This resource has been designed for Early Years children who are learning these sounds (and words) for the first time, pupils in Year 1 who need some practise/reinforcement of these sounds/words. This resource is also suitable for older learners with additional learning needs. How to use it? An adult can pre-cut along dotted lines provided and the set of x45 words (and images) can be shuffled and placed face-up on the carpet/a table top for learners to read and match. Resource Details… These words are all from the first 100/200 high frequency word lists. In the ‘word box’ at the top-right there is a coloured triangle. The colour indicates which phonics phase this word fits in with. Pink triangles indicate that the words are from ‘phase 2’, purple triangles indicate that the words are from ‘phase 3’ and turquoise triangles indicate that the words are from ‘phase 5’. The ‘key’ at the top of each sheet also makes this colour coded system clear. You can use this to help you introduce the words according to which phonics level your learner/s is/are at. Alternatively, the sound may have more than one of the same letter (and sound) which is possible to sound out but irregular. What’s included? This download includes seven A4, portrait pdf sheets to make a number matching set featuring x40 cards (Rainbow Dots to count and numerals from 1 to 20 to match). How to use this resource These square cards are designed to be joined together using a plastic clip/string or ribbon (maybe fastened with velcro for easy opening). The numeral cards (like number fans) can be used in a variety of situations including on-the-carpet questioning with the whole class/smaller groups where pupils can show their answers instead of speaking. However these have been designed to be a counting activity for an individual or group where the square (cards) are already cut up (and hole punched!), shuffled and displayed either loosely on a table top/carpet or already attached on the ring (shuffled or in order). Learners then count the rainbow dots on each card and find the matching numeral (or vice versa!). Once complete (or ‘as they go’ if working ‘in order’) learners can then order the numeral and picture cards together to create a complete set from 1 to 20 or backwards depending on the focus. These could also be used as a reference resource for learners e.g. to help count and order numbers and/or cross-check the correct orientation of individual numbers if unsure when writing. This ‘number match’ set could also be used for a variety of games and to accompany and involve learners during counting rhymes and songs, usable both inside the classroom and outdoors (especially if laminated to improve durability in all types of weather!) This resource has been designed for early years children, pupils in years one as well as students needing additional learning support. What’s it for? This activity set has been designed to practise and reinforce the first six sounds in Phase 2 - s a t p i n AND m d g o c k. Learners sound out the words on the ‘word cards’ and match these to the images on the ‘picture cards’. Answers are clearly presented on pages 3 and 4 for quick easy reference - encouraging learners to be autonomous. This ‘Phase 2’ phonics practise activity set (2) has been designed to be a simple, predictable matching activity to promote independence and consolidate knowledge of the first set of letters/sounds introduced. This activity is ideal for individuals/groups to be getting on with independently or for an adult to use to support learners needing some extra help/to revisit these sounds. Phase 2, set 1 (sounds s a t p i n) is also available (in same design) in my TES shop if you like this one. How to use it? The adult can pre-cut the x16 rectangular shaped picture cards (x8) and word cards (x8) (pages 1 and 2). Grey dotted lines guide where to cut. These x16 cards can then be shuffled and placed on a table top for learners to read and match. Resource Details… The words on the word cards only use the letters s, a, t, p, i, n, m, d, g, o, c, k (from sets 1 AND 2) These words are: dog map pig cap pot mat pod cogs Learners may find ‘pod’, ‘cogs’ and ‘mat’ more tricky to match as these three words are not as obvious/may be ‘new’ concepts to learners, encouraging learners to think a bit more about the meaning of the words on the cards. E.g. some learners may not know that a ‘pea’ grows inside of a ‘pod’. Learners may not know/be familiar with ‘cogs’ (or know they are called) and learners may confuse ‘cat’ with ‘mat’. I have included an orange arrow pointing to the ‘mat’ to help make this clearer. What’s it for? This activity set has been designed to practise and reinforce the first twelve sounds in Phase 2 - s a t p i n m d g o c k. Learners match pictures and sounds (as puzzles) to complete images and make a simple words to read. All words on the ‘picture puzzles’ only use these sounds. This activity set has been designed to be a simple, predictable activity to promote independence and consolidate knowledge of the first set of letters/sounds introduced. These resources are also ideal to use to revisit these sounds later if learners need some additional support with these. This activity is ideal for groups to be getting on with independently when these sounds are first introduced as a quieter time activity or for an adult to provide some small group/one to one support revisiting these sounds. How to use it? Picture/word puzzles Pages 1 and 2 An adult cuts out the x19 puzzle shapes following dotted lines. The segments of all x19 ‘picture/word puzzles’ can then be shuffled and placed on a table top for learners to match. These two sets can be used separately or together - both are colour coded. Set 1 (letter ‘s a t p i n’) is red/pink, set 2 (letters ‘m d g o c k’) is orange/yellow. Once the segments of each picture/word puzzle are completed each of the words can be read. What’s included? This download includes x9 word searches (all portrait orientation, pdf) A4 sheets, featuring nine ‘Autumn themed’ word searches. Page 1 features the word search and the answers (included on page 2) clearly show where all words are hidden. Answers are displayed in the same layout (as page 1) to promote autonomy whilst providing easy comparison/quick reference. Autumn themed word searches included in this download are Autumn, September, Back to school, October, Harvest Festival, Halloween, November, Bonfire Night, Remembrance Day. Each of these word searches are also available separately in my TES shop. Who’s it for? These word searches have been designed for pupils the early years, in years one and two, as well as students needing additional learning support. Resource layout The word search letters are arranged in a x10 by x10 square grid and featuring easy to read size 25 ‘Sassoon Infant Std’ font. The November word search is x13 squares up/down x14 squares across and the ‘Harvest Festival’ word search is x10 squares up/down and x12 squares across. The hidden words have been organised into four groups of four, clearly showing all hidden question words below the word search. There are up to 22 words to find per worksheets. Words are hidden horizontally (forwards and backwards) and vertically (up as well as down) and diagonally (forwards and backwards). Recommendations I recommend that learners use a ‘highlighter’ style pen when finding the hidden words as highlighters enable all letters to remain visible once each word has been identified. Some letters have been used more than once (for different words) so all letters need to remain visible (if words are instead ‘crossed out’ this makes the letters harder to read and identify). What’s included? This download includes x2 pages, portrait orientation, in pdf format. This resource features a large clock face with line indications of where the clock numbers should be placed (but not in which order). The numbers to 12 are positioned below the clock face - ready to cut out (with dotted lines to guide cutting). There is one extension question - which involves cutting out the ‘hour’ and ‘minute’ hands (at the top of page 2) and placing these on the completed clock face to show ‘3 o’clock’. The answers (the completed clock face) are displayed at the end of page 2 for learners to self-check how they got on. Clear, simple visual instructions of what to do are included on the sheet. Who’s it for? This ‘hours on a clock’ resource has been designed for early years and pupils in years one and two. This resource is also ideal for learners with additional learning needs. What’s included? This download includes x7 A4, portrait pdf 2D shape sheets featuring x36 matching cards. Who’s it for? This resource has been designed for early years children, pupils in years one and two as well as older students needing additional learning support. What’s it for? This resources is to name, count (the sides of) and match 2D shapes to the correct word label. There are x4 ‘answer cards’ included in the set which clearly list the pairs of shapes (pictures and names) on page 4. Learners could use these to help them match the cards or refer to them after they have completed the matching activity, encouraging autonomy. How to use this resource This matching activity has been designed to be an activity for an individual or group where the square (cards) are already cut up (and hole punched!), shuffled and displayed either loosely on a table top/carpet or already attached on the ring. Learners then look at each 2D shape image and (if they are able) name this. Learners can also count the number of sides of each shape and match the picture to the name label to complete the set. Once the set is matched into pairs (images and labels together) learners can then order the pairs from the least number of sides to the most (or vice versa!) 2D shapes included are oval, ellipse, semi circle, circle, triangle, equilateral triangle, right-angled triangle, square, rectangle, trapezium, parallelogram, rhombus, pentagon, hexagon, heptagon, octagon, nonagon, decagon. This 2D shape matching set could also be used as a reference resource for learners e.g. to help remember the number of sides and/or cross-check the name/spelling of individual shapes if unsure when writing these down. This ‘shape match’ set could also be used for a variety of ways, both inside and outdoors (especially if laminated to improve durability in all types of weather!) Hide and seek match could make a fun game where one half of the set (e.g. all the 2D shape pictures cards or all the name label cards) are missing and learners need to find them and match them up. Suggestion Brightly coloured plastic keyrings (which can be easily opened by unclipping the plastic) as seen on the main resource image are ideal for this resource and can be purchased online easily. Alternatively string or thin ribbon would work well. If a small piece of velcro was attached to both ends of string/ribbon with some strong glue this would help learners to be more independent using this resource.
