Lesson PowerPoint
Independent activity
Challenge questions
Scaffolded activity
Place value grid
Included is a lesson PowerPoint which includes a starter, key vocabulary and opportunities for modelling, discussion and guided practice. There are notes included to point out on some of the slides what the focus of the question is and potential misconception it is trying to address.
This is followed by an independent activity that links to the lesson, giving children the opportunity to apply their learning, including identifying the value of numbers, identifying the value of digits and being able to partition numbers. This is followed up with four problem solving and reasoning style questions to deepen understanding, with answers included for all.
For children who need additional support or scaffolding, there is an activity that focuses on numbers to 1,000,000 to then support pupils in building up to the main activity.
There is also a place value grid included to support pupils.
Attached are a number of resources to try and help in the build up to SAT's.
This includes 36 fully planned lessons to run from February half term with planning, slides and worksheets attached that operate on a mastery basis to develop children's reasoning and problem solving. These are for children to pick between based on confidence.
The reason for 36 lessons is so that you can also focus on other areas such as angles, graphs and rotation as desired or key target areas within your class. Where lessons are repeated, worksheets are repeated as purely revision. Within the presentation are slides for other lessons as a starting point.
Also included are mini-arithmetic tests and problem solving task cards children can work through and a revision mat of key facts.
A double lesson that focuses on being able to use the order of operations. Included is a PowerPoint for the two lessons that includes an arithmetic starter as well as an activity with answers and three challenge activities for those that are confident.
Mini-assessments that cover nearly all of the curriculum statements for Year 5 Maths. The only statements missing relate to estimations and some of the shape statements.
The idea is that if they can do a particular question without any teaching or a few weeks after some teaching then you have the evidence to tick and say they can do it. Question 1 generally relates to beginning, 2 is middleish with the third question then helping show they are secure in that statement.
Two fully resourced lessons that focus on being able to convert between cm and mm and between cm and m. The lesson presentation focuses on a range of questions and building understanding as well as guided practise questions for children to practise what they are learning. This is followed by one of two sheets based on confidence (answers included) before a final challenge question on the lesson presentation.
A fully resourced lesson that focuses on being able to recognise shapes can have the same area but different perimeter and vice versa (using quadrilaterals as a focus). The lesson presentation focuses on a range of questions and building understanding as well as guided practise questions for children to practise what they are learning. This is followed by worksheets based on confidence (answers included) before a final thought question on the lesson presentation.
