A short introduction to get secondary pupils to think about where their food comes from and how to use food more sustainably. This lesson can be used with the Food Inc. CDRom if you have it. If you DON'T have it, you might be able to get a free copy from info@dogwoof.com Add your own animations to text etc if you wish.

General knowledge Geography

(1)
Using the internet, this is a fun activity for homework or a spare lesson to test general knowledge Geography that the students may face questions about outside of school.

hurricane workbook

(1)
A short workbook in which AS students can compile some basic research about hurricanes (including Katrina). Very good for showing the importance of organisation of notes and the use of decent questioning and research skills.

The Day After Tomorrow question sheet

(2)
To be used when showing The Day After Tomorrow in class. I usually get mine to use their answers to build a short essay under the title: 'If the planet is warming, what are the climatic possibilities for the future of the Northern hemisphere?'

These resources were created using the Edexcel B spec. Our school has decided not to share levels with students until their final year, which is why there is one copy with levels (teacher copy) and one without (student copy).

Geography skills and intervention trackers

(0)
Two tracker sheets: one for skills and another for intervention. Besides making a difference to kids' development in the lesson, these are also very useful for evidence of progress and action for Performance Management, and just take an extra 30 seconds to fill in each time you mark work.

Gasland - Fracking Documentary worksheet with answers

(0)
I used the first 35 minutes of this documentary to enable my classes to see some of the impacts of fracking in the USA as part of our learning about an example of bridging the gap between fossil fuels and renewables. We go through the correct answers and discuss for 10 minutes. https://watchdocumentaries.com/gasland/ There has been a second docuemtary more recently but this one is easy to understand with core issues at the beginning which makes it easy to deliver.

Designed with the 9-1 specification in mind, this A3 sheet is an outline for conscientious students who could perhaps use it as a check sheet for revision - most expectations are highlighted using an “I can…” sentence starter so that it is easy to understand. I have used key terms like embedding and enhancing rather than assigning numerical grades so as to avoid those awkward questions in summer!

Sequencing tables - issues in GCSE Geography 9-1

Can be used to support Level 1 students to encourage them to extend sentences and potentially earn Level two marks. Deforestation, economic development climate change, economic change in the UK, flooding and desertification.

Waste and recycling match-up

Dominoes starter: Cut the cards in half and give to small groups or pairs in envelopes. Each sentence ENDING with an ellipsis should match a sentence STARTING with an ellipsis. Paired-task: Give each student a copy of the cards already cut up. They need to match them up, in discussion with a partner before the whole class reveal the correct answers and glue into books.

This workbook contains some activities and information factsheets that can be useful when teaching water at GCSE/A level. The DVD 'Blue Gold' works well with some tasks and is available on Youtube as a full movie.

Just one of the powerpoints used with GCSE/A Level double periods in the past. I have personally used the resource that I have attached as a quick test/plenary at the end of the lesson to see who has been taking the most effective notes OR retaining key facts.

Waves and coastlines gapfiller & clip

(1)
To be used with the BBC learning clip about waves and coastlines. Useful when introducing key terms and basic wave processes. NOT EROSION OR DEPOSITION :) Could be differentiated by adding a word box for SEN.
Economic development assessment

Economic development assessment

(1)
Designed for a mixed ability group to review learning about economic development,, with a focus on LEDCs. 25 marks - should take 50 minutes, as the final question requires a fair bit of reading and thinking through. Now with assessment grid.
