A quick hands-on camouflage modeling activity that gets students up and out of the classroom. Students will discover the reasons that camouflage is important for animals by using different colored toothpicks and collecting data on which color is easier to find in the grass. There are a variety of building activities ranging from easy to complex which allows you to use this set with children of all ages and abilities.
Three styles of cards are included for each build. One is a full-color version with a cartoon picture, the second is a print-friendly version of the first, and the third is a color version with no pictures. The picture version is good to use with children who need an idea of what to build before they start, while the no-picture version is ideal for your perfectionists who would get frustrated if they could not replicate the picture exactly or to allow more creativity.
Print on heavy paper (cardstock) and laminate to use again and again. Works great in classrooms and homeschools for STEM or STEAM centers, early finishers, morning time or just for fun! You can use blocks (LEGO, DUPLO, etc.) or any craft items for the building materials. Provide children with an assortment of materials, choose a card, and watch them create!

Two resources for teaching and learning 25 Greek and Latin affixes and roots. The first is a PowerPoint presentation which introduces the 25 word parts. Each slide includes 5 items: a word part, meaning of the word part, a picture to help remember the meaning, and a focus word with definition which shows the use of the part. You can easily convert the presentation to Google Slides.
The second resource is four complete sets of flashcards for the same word parts. The first two sets include each of the 25 affixes and roots, the third set has the meanings of the word parts, and the fourth set has the meanings with a picture. Several blank cards are included so you can add additional word parts to study. The flashcards are perfect for centers, small groups, or individual practice. Print on heavy paper (cardstock) and laminate for long-term use. Use them for games such as Charades, Go Fish, Concentration and Pictionary. Your ELL, visual, and kinesthetic learners will enjoy the activities as they build their vocabulary! An answer key is provided to allow students to check their work.
List #17 includes the following affixes and roots: aur, coron, flect, glott, hist, lingu, liter, mens, mony, mot, nav, ovi, par, peri, phan, phasia, phen, pot, pter, quin, rat, sis, socio, und, via. These parts are based on List #17 of “The Word Within the Word I” by Michael Clay Thompson, although this resource can be used with any study of Greek and Latin roots.
