GCSE Chemistry: Glass, Ceramics, Composites and Rusting

(1)
Two lessons, with one on Glass, ceramics and composites and another on rusting. Both differentiated throughout and exam questions included (with one scaffolded for support). The first lesson includes making different types of concrete by having different ratios of ingredients, with their strength to be tested at the beginning of the next lesson (rusting). Rusting lesson has an experiment to test the conditions needed for rusting to occur. Learning Objectives: Explain who ceramics are made Explain how different properties are related to their functions Compare the physical properties of glass, ceramics and composites Learning Objectives: Describe what rusting is and the factors that cause it to happen Explain how different methods can prevent rusting from occurring Justify why alloys are used

GCSE Physics Big Bang Evidence

(0)
A GCSE physics lesson on the evidence of the big bang used with a KS4 class. Covers doppler effect and red shift. I also had students running outside pretending to be a ambulance to demonstrate the doppler effect.
New GCSE - Hydrocarbons
ls6372ls6372

New GCSE - Hydrocarbons

(0)
New GCSE lesson on hydrocarbons and introducing alkanes to the students. When looking at the different properties of the different length hydrocarbon chains the practical demo I did was to show them 'short chain' alkanes and 'long chain' alkanes and compare the two. The students then wrote down the results a table which is shown in the lesson. Learning Objectives: Describe what crude oil is and where it has come from Draw out and identify alkanes using molecular and displayed formulae Explain the properties of different chain length alkanes
New GCSE - Centre of Mass
ls6372ls6372

New GCSE - Centre of Mass

(0)
Lesson covering the centre of mass and working out the centre of mass of regular and irregular objects. Differentiated throughout and the practical involving finding the centre of mass of irregular shapes. Learning Objectives: Describe what is meant by the centre of mass of a body and how to find it Explain why objects topple over Explain how to find the centre of mass of an irregular object
History of Medicine
ls6372ls6372

History of Medicine

(0)
A lesson created for the History department to use during science week, looking at how medicine has developed over time starting with the Romans. Can be used in science lessons too! Differentiated throughout. Learning Objectives: Describe the way illness was dealt with in the earliest time periods Explain why survival rate improved Compare methods of surgery in different time periods
New GCSE - Atmospheric Pollutants
ls6372ls6372

New GCSE - Atmospheric Pollutants

(1)
New GCSE lesson on polluting gases produced by the burning of fossil fuels for the new AQA syllabus Learning Objectives: Describe the pollutants produced by combustion Explain the problems associated with each pollutant Discuss what can be done to reduce the carbon footprint of a country Analyse the social, economical and ethical results of the problems caused by pollutants
Balancing Equations

New GCSE - Potable water

(0)
New GCSE lesson on potable water for the AQA syllabus. For the required practical I used the practical sheets provided by the AQA exam board. Exam questions and answers included. Learning Objectives: Describe the differences between potable and pure water Explain the process of desalination Evaluate the steps used to produce potable water
Eclipses and Satellites
ls6372ls6372

Eclipses and Satellites

(0)
KS3 lesson on eclipses and satellites. Differentiated questions throughout and weblinks all working when uploaded. I would advise also having a big light/torch and two different sized balls to demonstrate the different types of eclipses. Learning Objectives: Describe what satellites are Describe the difference between lunar and solar eclipses Explain how eclipses occur
