French beginner worksheet on family

French beginner worksheet on family

(2)
Two worksheets aimed at beginner year 7 French on the topic of family and introducing the vocab for family members. The grammar focus is on mon/ma and j’ai to form sentences. There are optional challenge questions but the idea would be that students could complete this work independently and without too much support. It would be good for homeowrk, to send home to complete or for when you need a quiet 20 minutes in class for whatever reason! I have aimed this a middle ability set. The first sheet is to build up from single items of vocab (family members) to sentences then on to a short paragraph. The idea is they will make fewer mistakes with writing as it is very scaffolded. The second sheet is reading comprehension with the aim of them being able to use the reading to help them write their own piece using ideas taken from the examples they read.

French GCSE writing on the environment

(0)
A series of activities designed to get students to be able to answer a question on the tricky topic of environment. Starts with single words into and from French and builds up to sentences. Work follows on an example answer for a 90 word question and then students write their own after picking out chunks and phrases from the example. A 150 word writing is the final task. On 4 sides so can be printed easily two pages to a side and on reverse to save paper!

Sentence builder with the hardest items glossed, first sentences to translate are easy and should be taken straight from the grid. Followed by a section of similar sentences with some unknown items that the students should know from prior knowledge. Finally a paragraph to translate with three time frames and gapped support.

Sheet 1: basic vocab, translation into English then translation of VERY similar sentences into French followed by a bsic sentence builder. Sheet 2 : more detailled sentence builder to write sentences about plans post 16 includes easy comprehension reading activity with a lot of repeated vocabulary. Students write their own sentences using the builder then read 4 short paragraphs about future plans and pick out the main information. I’ll use some textivate exercises to play with it and do some translation on it too. I have taken photos of the essay plans I wrote, I’ll look at that with my students first so they can see how I got to the essay.
Letter to a favourite teacher

Letter to a favourite teacher

(0)
Student use the writing frame to write a letter to their favourite teacher. We have completed the topic of school subjects, saying why you like them etc. This is an end of topic activity. Students write a letter in their book to their favourite teacher (they cannot pick me!). I check it. Then they write it SUPER neatly onto writing paper - I buy some cute paper and envelopes for this but you could just use coloured paper, ask them to illustrate it or whatever. The point is it is hand written and neat and nicely presented. My favourite part: I put the completed letter into the pigeon hole of the teacher. I don’t explain what it is. So the teachers get a French reading activity to do as well!
