I may be old fashion, but I believe that dictionary skills are so important when learning a foreign language. These activities are the second part of the dictionary ideas.
These are not only fun and engaging but also help students become proficient in using bilingual dictionaries while reinforcing their Spanish vocabulary. Give them a try in your classroom and watch your students’ enthusiasm for learning soar!
Feel free to share these ideas with your fellow educators and let’s make language learning an adventure together!
These resources were created to support students during the school closures in 2020. The remote learning in our school has been amazing and our students can continue their learning from home. The most difficult part is to allow everyone to practise the four skills. Some students are more confident than others as we can observe in the classroom when we teach them face-to-face. Teaching the same students remotely makes this difference more noticeable. It will depend on the teachers knowledge of the class and experience to reach out in order to differenciate and make opporunities for everyone to make progress.
These are some of the activities for my Y10s AQA Spanish syllabus Unit 4 Customs and festivals. A huge acknowledgment to all the amazing, innovative teachers who have shared ideas and resources on the different teachers forums as you will find a lot of their work and ideas in the resources that I’m saring with you now.

“Encanto” in the Spanish Classroom
Great 3-lesson activity pack for Encanto.
Enhance your high school Spanish classes with this engaging 3-day lesson plan centered around Disney’s “Encanto.” This resource provides a structured approach to explore Colombian culture, language, and thematic elements through the film.
I also included instructions on how to access the film online for free for schools
Lesson Breakdown:
Day 1: Introduction to Colombia’s geography, traditions, and cultural aspects. Begin watching the first 30 minutes of “Encanto” with guided note-taking on characters, setting, and cultural references.
Day 2: Continue the film for 30 minutes, focusing on new vocabulary and cultural observations. Includes structured note-taking and discussion prompts.
Day 3: Conclude the film, emphasising themes and personal reflections.
This resource includes detailed instructions, discussion questions, and note-taking guides to help students connect with the film’s cultural and linguistic elements. Perfect for 50-minute class periods, this plan encourages active viewing and meaningful conversations.

Using structure strips have been incredibly useful and rewarding for my pupils.
I have been using them to help students to form better quality paragraphs.
This is a handout to provide feedback to your Year 9 and GCSE students on their written work in Spanish.
After marking a piece of writing, I add one of this handouts to my students' work, highlighting an area or two for them to improve. Alternatively, I cut a QR Code and stick it on their work along with my feedback.
Students have to use a QR code reader on their iPads or smartphones to access the content in the QR Codes which will display some grammar information.
In this way feedback is a bit more personalised and interactive.
Hope you can give it a go!

This quiz is for GCSE students. it’s aimed to test students on 25 verbs (regular and irregular) in the Present tense in the first person. The activity is timed to 5 minutes. It includes the support of a wordcloud with all the answers to find to support students.
As a post activity, students can scan the QR code to access Steven French website where they will find all 25 verbs from the quiz in 5 tenses in the first person with the English translation.
Hope your students find it useful!
