Edexcel ALevel Core Values of Socialism for Politics This lesson examines the core values underpinning Socialism as an ideology with some links to key thinkers and examples. Lesson 2 of my Socialism unit for Alevel. This lesson includes a range of resources including video clips to demonstrate the key ideas. This lessons should take 2-4 hours depending if you get students to do the Core Values independently and then go over it all to explain it after wards. I use both the Heywood and Pearson book for doing Core Values to give students for reading but if you have neither- a detailed summary of all ideas is contained on these slides.

Alevel Politics Lesson for Edexcel (can also be used for AQA or Sociology, Civics, Philosophy etc) -Ideologies Socialism lesson 1- Looks at origins of Socialism and the context of the Industrial Revolution as well as earlier examples. Robert Owen, Marx and Engels, Revolutionary Socialism and Evolutionary Socialism/ Social Democracy For a 2 hour lesson plus homework to research thinkers.

Edexcel ALevel Politics- can be adapted to AQA. This lesson (3 hours worth of work) uses the newest Bennett chapters (although almost all key notes are on slides). Examines similarities/ differences between UK and US Constitutions in terms of the three branches of government, nature/ origins, Federalism/ Devolution and also the Comparative theories.

Alevel lessons on Tudor Rebellions This is work for 2 2 hour lessons plus homework on the Nature and Threat of the Western rebellion. The Western Rebellion is one of the key rebellions which students need to study in depth for OCR ALevel. This lesson has a retrieval starter based on previous lesson. Colour code, mapping exercise to learn the narrative of the rebellion. Includes a detailed timeline/ chronology of the Western rebellion which will save you hours as I had to put it together from many different sources. Also includes a huge A3 threat evaluation sheet broken down into key criteria used to evaluate threat. This is a depth study so resources are very detailed. Analysis of threat based on all work done so far and a conclusion as well as a key debate on how violent the western rebels were.

Rebellion and Disorder under the Tudors The Causes of the Western Rebellion These resources will take 3- 4 hours of teaching time plus homework for students to complete Includes: documentary task from Starkey episode on Edward VI as context. Discussion tasks for students on the impact of Edward’s religious reform and Political context Venn diagram task to analyse causes Sources such as maps, rebel demands and a narrative of rebel actions to evidence causes. Key debates- was Western rebellion a response to political instability? Was Western rebellion a religious rising? Retrieval quizzes on Western rebellion as starters/ plenary. Assessment 30 mark interpretations on causes of Western rebellion. Model answer for above interpretations. Can be further complemented by pages from Fellows Access to History but not essential as there is plenty of factual info included. Very detailed as I’ve been improving this over three years, learning from mistakes as I’ve gone along!

Lesson made for OCR Russia ALevel 1894-1941 but can be adapted or used for other specs/ GCSE. This follows on from my previous lessons on Russia in 1894, Opposition to the Tsar and the RUsso-Japanese War however can be used as a stand alone lesson provided your students have prior knowledge of problems in Russia prior to 1905 etc. Includes all slides, video clip from Battleship Potemkin, card sort, analysis sheet, primary sources and analysis of why Mirsky’s appointment was significant, why Banqueting Campaigns were significant and why the Bloody Sunday protest was significant. This lesson is based around evaluating the Constitution according to how fit for purpose it is. Includes all resources needed for a standalone lesson but will work best as a follow on from my previous lessons. Includes a lot of information- suitable for a non specialist/ new to Tudor Rebellions teachers- saves you all the hard work of planning!

The Background to and Causes of the Tyrone Rebellion ALevel OCR- Tudor Rebellions. The 9 Years War Irish History This is one of the Depth studies- a likely exam question since the focus has largely been on the Pilgrimage of Grace and the Western Rebellion up til now. This work will take several one hour lessons - it recaps the prior Irish rebellions such as Desmond and Geraldine since the legacy of these was one of the reasons. Looks at Tyrone’s demands as well as the motivations of Hugh Roe O’Donnell and Hugh Maguire.

Edexcel Politics ALevel USA Can be used for AQA too Lesson on the Features/ principles of the American Constitution including Separation of Powers, Checks and Balances and Federalism. This is lesson 2 of my unit and follows on from the work we did on the Constitution in lesson 1 and the framers of the constitution. Students learn about the features, using modern, up to date examples mainly from Obama and Trump administrations. They then evaluate how effective the checks and balances are etc, Would the Founding Fathers be pleased with the results?

Edexcel Politics ALevel but can be used for AQA This is a double (2 hour) lesson on the Principles and Features of the Constitution. Includes all up to date case studies and examples from the updated Bennett book (2021). Very comprehensive, suitable for new teacher with no knowledge- all informationn and examples included in worksheets and slides. Students to work independently learning about the principles then do some class discussion and evaluation before completing their own “report cards” for the Principles to grade them and justify the grades they have given.
