This lesson details the progression from Motte and Bailey Castles to Stone Keep Castles in Medieval Britain. The lesson contains a 4 mark describe question to reflect on prior learning. The content covers the structure and features of stone keep castle and then looks further (through means of a carousel activity) advantages and disadvantages of stone keep castles. This would lead well to insert a Paper 1 ‘Interpretations Q’ for the new Spec AQA paper.

This lesson explores 8 different types of weaponry used by soldiers/armies during WW1. Students will discover how each was weapon was used and, explore the pros and cons of each and make justified conclusions of the effectiveness of these weapons. The lesson also allows student the opportunity to practice exam style PEEL paragraphs as well as looking at the Time, Author, Purpose, Place of sources as per the new exam spec (AQA). There is more than enough content in this pack to cover more than one lessons and resources can easily be adapted to make simpler for lower ability students. A well presented lesson on the 1066 Battle of Hastings in the run up to the penultimate lesson of the Battle of Hastings created for KS3 history students on Microsoft Powerpoint A little about the lesson Students explore the Battle of Hastings between two of the contenders Harold Godwinson and Duke William of Normandy. Students uncover the sequence of events during the battle, they encounter a codebreaker task and look at some of the imagery of the Bayeux tapestry. Students consider advantages and disadvantages of each army throughout the lesson. Students then apply their learning to a written exam technique task. Students are guided into answering an exam style question (AQA 8 mark question) with scaffolded sentence and a mark scheme for self assessment to help them begin to understand the requirements for GCSE style questions from an early stage. This can easily be tweaked, however, to tailor the resource to your exam board. Whats included? A whole 1 hour lesson powerpoint is included (there are teacher notes also under some slides). Student worksheets/resources are included in hidden slides in the relevant points of the presentation and also as an additional Powerpoint for ease of printing. Homework, Learning Objectives and outcomes have also been completed in this resource, however, they can easily be tweaked to suit the needs and ability of your classes. It is very likely this lesson will take beyond an hour to complete depending on the ability of the class and how long is spent on each task. This lesson looks at how William the Conqueror tried to maintain control of England following his 1066 invasion by introducing and implementing the Feudal System. The lesson looks at what a feudal system was/is and compares it in the modern day context. It’s aim is to explore the ways in which the Nazi’s used propaganda and stereotyping to humiliate and discredit the Jewish race in German society. This is to help students begin to understand how the Nazis then were able to turn society against the Jewish people and other minority groups which then paved the way towards Holocaust and eventual mass murder. This lesson is very heavily focused on working on students source analysis and interpretation skills using antisemitic propaganda that was distributed by the Nazi party in German society in the 1930’s. This lesson includes suggested learning objectives and outcomes and has been designed to be taught over the course of one hour - although it may run over. A well presented lesson on the capture of slaves. Students are engaged through detailed, well presented resources. For this lesson ROOTs is required. Students find an engaging way to learn about the route slave capture through classroom discussion. Students then prose their own enquiry questions about slave capture. Students watch the extract from ROOTs before and including the capture of Kunte Kinte up until his incarceration on the beach. Students then answer their own enquiry questions. Students reflect and develop their written empathy skills by writing a diary extract. Students are to focus on including both key historical terminology learnt in lesson 1 but also improve their vocabulary using some of the words provided.

This resource is a 30 question Black History Month quiz created on Microsoft Powerpoint suitable for KS3 and KS4 secondary students. Celebrate Black History Month this October (UK) with your classes or tutor groups with this 30 question quiz themed around the event complete with answers. There are 30 multiple choice questions in this quiz covering popular facts and knowledge, famous faces, inventors, athletes, movers and shakers and figures who changed the world! The answers are then to be shared as a class either by going through each question (ensure you are in present mode for the correct answer to colour green) for students to peer or self mark. You could alternatively use the quick answer quiz sheet variation of this quiz if you would prefer. I would recommend for this quiz students get into groups of no more than 4 and the activity should take no longer than 20 minutes to complete. This lesson is the first in my SOW following William of Normandy’s ascension to the English throne in 1066. The lesson focuses heavily on Williams problems now that he is a foreign ruler in England in 1066 having conquered its people by force. It looks at the problems William may face and gets students to consider their solutions. Students then demonstrate their learning by practicing a 4 mark describe question (New AQA exam technique) Peer assessment can easily be incorporated for efficient marking. This lesson introduces students to the idea of the stock market and how it works -initially through a brief video and followed by a game students can play independently/in pairs or in groups/ were students can experience the stock market. Exam technique covered in this lesson is the 4 mark question. Although this lesson is designed for the new spec it could easily work with the old spec too. Speculation on the stock market is a really difficult concept for students to understand. To fully understand the causes of the wall street crash they need to be able understand how the stock market works and the risk involved. All resources provided for the game. A well presented lesson serving as an introduction to Slavery by introducing topic keywords. Students are engaged through detailed, well presented resources. The lesson provides keyword gap fill/jumbled words to choose as time/ability suits. In addition an answer sheet is provided. Students are then challenged to use the words in context in sentences to improve use of key historical language and vocab. 4 mark question layout used in the starter.

This is the third lesson in my SOW for Y7 which introduces students to the 4 key areas of life in 1066 and (monarchy/religion/the people/law and order) and focuses on improving literacy skills (PEE paragraphs) in history using clear and engaging scaffolds. The lesson is ideal for paired/group work and was originally planned for a mixed ability group.
