Book Binding and Paper Marbling

Teach your students how to create their own bound books for the stories that they write. This instructional resource shows the step by step process of book binding and paper marbling. Paper marbling is a design technique that produces patterns similar to marble or other stones. Paint or dye is floated in water and patterns result when fabric or paper is submerged. It is an age-old technique that is used as a writing surface for calligraphy and especially book covers and endpapers in book binding and stationery. Book binding is the process of assembling a book by hand. It results from sewing a number of folded sheets of paper or other material together and attaching it to a book cover. Teach these unique processes so that students can appreciate the importance of holding a book that they have made in their hands!
