Electricity: Conductors and Insulators

(1)
A self contained lesson aimed at introducing key stage 2 primary students to electricity and circuit building. Includes an introductory video and activity, a main circuit building activity and plenary. Encompasses the science skills of predicting, collecting evidence, concluding and evaluating. Students will learn how to build a simple series circuit and test a range of materials for electrical conduction/insulation and also why they conduct/insulate. Ideal as a self contained lesson, online learning or if students do not have access to electrical materials to build circuits. Can also lead on to other circuit building activities and learning how to build different types of circuit.
Electrical safety

Static electricity

(0)
A lesson of activities on static electricity which I always use as an introduction to the topic of electricity. Includes a lesson which can be done without practical equipment as well practical activities. I set up the activities as group work around the class as a circus/round robin of activities about 10 minutes each.
Series and Parallel circuits

Series and Parallel circuits

(0)
A complete interactive lesson on series and parallel circuits using an introductory video task, online circuit builders and plenary comparing the differences. Also includes a separate worksheet (with answers) as a review activity.
Fruit batteries
nmarknmark

Fruit batteries

(1)
A complete lesson on fruit and vegetable batteries with differentiated worksheets, power points and videos. Includes background about batteries as an introduction, key investigation question and variables, data collection and analysis, conclusion and evaluation. Also includes an assessment rubric that can be adapted to your curriculum objectives.
Electricity- Investigating series circuits

Electricity- Investigating series circuits

(0)
A complete lesson investigating series circuits and exploring how changing either the number of batteries or bulbs affects the voltage. This lesson can be expanded or adapted to include amps/ammeters and/or parallel circuits if you wish. It can also be done as an interactive computer lesson or practical if you have the relevant equipment.
Electricity - Building and testing simple (series) circuits

Space and the Solar system KS2 and 3.

(0)
A series of connected lessons aimed at primary or middle school/secondary that address the often tricky but interesting topics of space and the solar system. Each lesson is self contained with resources including videos, practical investigations, quizzes, data collection, analysis and extension follow up tasks. Lessons can be adapted to suit your particular curriculum and would be suitable for a half term or bimester of 9/10 weeks with an extra lesson for review. Lessons include exploring our solar system, gravity, weight and mass, earth and the seasons, moon phases, stars and constellations, solar energy, meteors/meteorites and satellites. The lessons need limited special scientific equipment and also included are help sheets (if needed) with guidance and support for students and teachers.
Energy in Food

Energy in Food

(0)
A self contained lesson for teaching either key stage 2 or 3 Science. The topic is energy in food and it contains 2 separate lessons: one for distance learning where no lab equipment is available and another for actual lab experiments. All the key science skills are covered including hypothesis, variables, prediction, data collection and analysis as well as conclusion and evaluation. All data is provided for each task as well as a self assessment/teacher assessment rubric that can be adapted/modified to your assessment objectives.
