A lesson plan for SMART technology I made on the area of a circle for my bottom set year 10 class. Because it is a weak group I have broken it down into only using radii before extending to having to work them out from the diameter instead. There are a couple of harder questions at the end for class discussion.

Differentiated worksheet for pupils to practice decimal multiplication - preferably after having been taught using grid method. Pupils should choose the best place for them to start. In the red section the grids are laid out for pupils to complete, and then for the last few questions they must draw the grids themselves. The yellow section is straightforward practice, pupils multiply the decimals with no hints. The green section contains problem solving questions to challenge those who understand the technique.

A fun and engaging codebreaker activity in which pupils must answer questions involving adding and subtracting negative numbers in order to crack the code and reveal the joke. Ideal for consolidating skills, pupils will race to complete this task and glory in telling you how terrible the joke is. Answers are included, as is the original Publisher file to allow for easy editing should you wish to do so.

This worksheet is a combination of my decimal addition and decimal subtraction worksheets, aimed at teachers who prefer to teach these together. There are three sections, the red section assists pupils by setting out the problems for them at first before forcing them to do so themselves. In the yellow section the pupils must set out all the problems themselves, whereas the green section contains worded questions and some problem solving elements. Answers are included.

Four worksheets of mean, median, mode and range where the questions change only slightly each time. Two sheets per slide, designed to be cut down to A5. The purpose of this is for pupils to start looking at (facilitated as needed by the teacher) the patterns from question to question and start predicting the answers based on the change in the question rather than just working it out as normal. Fun and engaging Connect 4 game for practicing Times Tables from 2-10. Pupils pair up (or could be played with two pairs against each other) and take it in turns to answer a question, if they get the answer correct (and the other pupil(s) agrees) they write their initials over the square with a whiteboard marker. You could also use post-its or counters for this. First pupil (or pair) to get a line of 4 correct answers wins!

Differentiated written subtraction worksheet designed for KS2 or low attaining KS3 pupils. The questions come in three levels - Red (plain subtraction building up to borrowing), Amber (Borrowing leading up to pupils setting up the columns themselves) and Green (Pupils set up the columns, includes some decimal subtraction). There is also an extra GCSE style functional maths question to challenge the higher attaining pupils.

A complete lesson plan for carrying out column subtraction. I have included questions with answers in the powerpoint, however if you prefer you can use the worksheet or silhouette activity also included to consolidate the learning of the lesson, giving added flexibility.

Engaging worksheet activity focused on written multiplication up to three digit by three digit. Pupils must answer the questions on each sheet and follow the answers to find the correct route through the maze! Answers are included in the document. Publisher and PDF files included for ease of use.

Engaging bingo activity based on place value. There is a mix of questions focusing on turning words to figures and finding the value of an underlined digit. Bingo is always popular with pupils and I have regularly used them in my lessons - my students have often requested them, or that we do them again after the first go. Pupils can either draw a 3 x 3 grid in their book, or you can print off some of the blank grids at the start of the powerpoint. They then fill their grid with a selection of the bingo question answers. Can play for both a line and a full house to extend the game or keep pupils interested if their questions aren't coming up often. For replayability, the slide questions can be rearranged so they come up in a different order.

Simple yet engaging code breaker activity in which pupils solve one step equations and write the letter of the equation under the corresponding answer to reveal the hidden message of what Mr Chips did at the weekend. Message should read "He stole the queen's hat".

Three treasure hunt activities on addition, subtraction and a mix of the two that engage pupils and add variety to lessons. Pupils can complete the task individually or in pairs. The cards should be cut out and stuck around the wall of the classroom. Pupils go and stand near one of the cards (in a pair or individually) - possibly whiteboards should be given to them for working out - and they start with that card. When they answer the question on the card they go and find the card that has that answer on, making a note of the order of the cards (the card numbers are at the bottom of the cards). When they get round to the card they started at, pupils are done and come to you to check their work. The correct order is included in the documents so you can see quickly where any mistakes have been made. Blank answer sheets are also included for pupils to write down the card numbers.

Connect four game for pupils to do in pairs or groups of four (with two teams of two pupils). In my experience the activity works best when the board is laminated and pupils can use whiteboard markers. Pupils take it in turns to try and answer a question, and are peer assessed by the other team. If they get it correct they can put their initials over the space, and the goal is to get four squares in a row. The pupils could also used coloured post it's or counters. Answers are included.

Fun and engaging blockbusters activity for the classroom based on the classic TV show. This particular activity is designed to help pupils consolidate their knowledge of multiplying decimal numbers. Split the class into two teams and assign each one to be either blue or white. Each team takes turns to choose a letter that will then reveal a question. If they get the question right make the tile their colour by clicking the blue or white boxes on each tile. The blue team win if they make a connected row across the screen, and the white team win if they make one going down. Because the blue team have another tile to complete, they should go first.
