Peer editing templates useful for building on AFL

Templates are provided that can be readily modified. One template is a GCSE revision template where students are guided to create their own exam questions and peer edit answers. The second template is useful for writing Blooms-leveled answers at Key Stage 3 and includes a wordbank. The third is an AS Chemistry exam question with keyword glossary. All templates include written instructions for students. Peer editing is great when combined with AFL strategies before and after the activity.

This is a printout to be stuck in pupils books giving students guidance on how to write better exam questions and a model mark scheme. It works well when pupils are given a specification or list of learning objectives to use a guideline for what questions may be asked.

Fullerenes and buckyballs GCSE graded ICT task

(4)
This is a graded task sheet designed for independent working. There is differentiation by keyword, website and task. All students make an advert explaining how the materials work and bright and capable students can design their own materials. The grade A website is very detailed and provides stretch and challenge up to A* so students need to be selective in what they read. I have included a document that provides detail about the reading complexity and reading age of the websites. Please leave a comment if you find this useful or if you think that it can be improved.

The second column is completed half way through. The last column is completed at the end during a plenary that makes use of the LOs. Pupils write R,O,G in the boxes and show their red, orange or green colour cards. The cards can be left on the table during the lesson so the teacher can check understanding.

Iodoform reaction - A level chemistry - includes RSC practical

(0)
This is a thoroughly planned lesson on the iodoform reaction that may should take a total of approximately 2 hours (2 lessons). This forms part of a scheme of work on carbonyl compounds. The RSC practical that is included works well. Please carefully read through the safety advice provided by the RSC and take care when disposing of the products. The starter recaps previous learning where students match up different carbonyl compound tests with their observations and the species being tested for. The lesson then moves into a discussion of what the iodoform reaction tests for and students identify compounds that would test positively. Whiteboards could be used for assessment for learning. The students might then carry out the RSC practical in pairs. Please rate this resource and leave feedback.
