A worksheet I made for year 8/9 students about the laws of indices, with accompanying worked solutions in a separate document. It includes basic laws on the worksheet, and questions that increase in difficulty as the worksheet progresses. There is also a set of questions that combine standard form and laws of indices, so I would suggest that standard form is covered before this worksheet is attempted. Here is a worksheet on expanding brackets with an accompanying set of worked solutions. Students are encouraged to mirror the shown working clearly (an example is given). Questions get harder as the worksheet progresses, ranging from UK grades 3/4 up to 7-9. This worksheet also tests general arithmetic, such as multiplying 2 digit numbers and adding 3 and 4 digit numbers. There is also an activity at the end that encourages students to write their own brackets for their partners to expand. I would advise that students are taken through more examples before attempting the harder questions in boxes 2 and 3 as there are brackets involving cubic powers and higher.
