I have been Head of RE, Pastoral Lead and Head of PSHE & Citizenship in my 19 year teaching career. I am currently Head of PSHE & Citizenship at a large secondary school 11-18. My shop includes: PSHE and Citizenship sessions, Assemblies, Tutor Time activities SMSC, Fundamental British Values and Religious Education. They are fully resourced RE or Citizenship lessons, worksheets or 15 minute assemblies/tutor time PSHE sessions suitable for 11-18 and some can also be used for younger audiences.

This is a 15 minute assembly or tutor time PSHE session about plastic pollution. It is suitable for KS3-KS5 students (Ages 11-18, Years 7-13) and fits into the PSHE, Citizenship curriculum and addresses the very important current issue of damaging the environment. This explains what plastic pollution is and how we can minimise waste as an individual and as a society. It gives practical suggestions on how to stop plastic pollution and allows students to have some interesting discussions about why it is hard to recycle all plastics that we buy. There is a short downloaded video clip that will never disappear.

This is a 60-90 minute lesson for RE, Citizenship, SMSC, FBV or PSHE. It covers what MPs do, why students should write to them and outlines how to write an effective letter. This lesson belonged to a topic of Protest and this ends the topic with students writing their own letter of protest to their MP about something they feel is important in their local area. Suggested topics are given, written and discussion tasks included, a youtube clip that is downloaded that will never disappear and a section on emotive language and why this is important in letters of protest to MPs. There is a handout that accompanies the lesson to show students a model letter and allow them to have the selection of emotive language features in front of them while they write the letter. You will need to change the school address and MP’s details in the letter and the powerpoint to make it totally relevant for your students. This contributes to Citizenship education and was originally an RE lesson which was very well received by both the MP and the students. It is suitable for KS3 - KS5 (Ages 11-18, Years 7-13) and was originally a Year 9 lesson in the topic of Protest.

This is a 10-15 minute assembly about the recent news stories about racism in cricket focusing on the importance of thinking before posting on social media. it is suitable for all year groups from Year 6 - Year 13 (KS2, KS3, KS4, KS5, Ages 10-18) and can be used for an assembly, tutor time session, whole school, PSHE or Citizenship session. It can easily be lengthened by changing the discussion activities to written ones for it to last a whole lesson. There are two short youtube clip which are downloaded so they will never disappear. It is narrated but you can delete this by clicking on the icon and pressing delete. It covers: what the recent news stories are regarding cricket (mentioning Azeem Rafiq & Tim Paine), why we should be wary of what we post on social media or send in messages, how to control your digital footprint, how your future can be affected by your actions on social media as a child or young adult. It also shows the connection with a slide on Fundamental British Values, the UN Rights of a Child and a point of Reflection. There are links to the news and other extension activities looking at quotes which teachers can use or students can have as an extension activity on an online platform or for homework. This was originally designed as a citizenship tutor time session for KS3, KS4 and KS5 for November - December 2021.

This is a 10-15 minute assembly that focuses on the issue of stereotyping. It was originally a Year 7 (Ages 11-12) tutor time PSHE session but it is suitable for an assembly for KS3-KS5 (Years 7-13, Ages 11-18). It has some discussion activities and some downloaded videos that will never disappear! It could easily be lengthened to a whole PSHE lesson if needed. This is a 10-20 minute assembly about World AIDS day on 1st December suitable for KS3, KS4 and KS5 (Ages 11-18, Years 7-13). It focuses on the campaign of 2021 but can easily be adapted for other years. It is fully narrated and this can simply be changed by deleting the icon on each slide if you would prefer it without narration. This PowerPoint includes a brief look at: What HIV & AIDs are Treatments and symptoms How someone could catch HIV History of HIV in the UK The need to eradicate HIV and how close we are to doing that How to protect ourselves Stigma & how you can’t catch it The importance and history of the Red Ribbon Why WAD is so important What can students do to raise awareness on WAD Links for further information and support 4 downloaded short videos that will never disappear (2 as part of the assembly and 2 as extensions). This is a 10-20 minute assembly about Brexit which is suitable for KS3 - KS5 (Ages 11-18, Years 7-13). It was originally a year 7 tutor time Citizenship session which was very successful. It includes two downloaded video clips that will never disappear, some discussion questions and a quiz as a plenary to check understanding. It includes: What Brexit means What the EU is What happened on Brexit Day What happened after Brexit and what needed to be decided as a country. It also includes a discussion plenary about how Brexit affects them. This fits into the Citizenship scheme of work, Fundamental British Values, SMSC and PSHE. It can easily be lengthened to last a whole lesson. It has no written activities but should last between 10-20 minutes depending on the length of discussion in your class.

This is a 10-20 minute assembly about time management and how students can manage their time when they are at home. It was originally a Year 10 tutor time PSHE session but is suitable for a whole school assembly or session for KS3, KS4 & KS5 (Ages 11-18, Years 7-13). It includes some brilliant tips for students to organise their time when they are not in school. It also includes important definitions and examples of the best study techniques so their time is managed effectively. It contains some discussion activities and a plenary task discussing a variety of quotes about time management. It could easily be lengthened with a timetable planning activity if you needed it to last a whole lesson. This session has two short downloaded video clips that will never disappear. It fits into the mental health, key skills, PSHE and core tutor time programmes across secondary school. Students reacted very positively to this presentation and they said it had helped them with managing their time effectively for revision.

This is a 10-15 minute assembly about foreign aid which is suitable for KS3-KS5 (Ages 11-18, Years 7-13). It fits with the Fundamental British Values, SMSC, PSHE & Citizenship curriculums and was originally a PSHE tutor time session for Year 9. It contains: What foreign aid is Where the UK’s foreign aid goes Why we give aid How much the UK gives in foreign aid What sort of aid the UK gives A video about where foreign aid goes A video about the government’s decision to cut foreign aid in November 2021 The videos are downloaded so will never disappear and there is a thinking task at the end. This resource does not contain any written tasks, just discussions but can easily be adapted to last a whole lesson if required. Students responded very well to this presentation and lots of interesting and useful discussions were had as a result of this session.

This is suitable for upper KS3-KS5 (Years 9-13, Ages 13-18) and fits well into the new RSE & Health curriculum, the PSHE & Citizenship curriculum as well as the Keeping children Safe in Education Safesguarding document. It contains: What ketamine is The dangers and risks of the drug Discussion about the class of the drug A short video clip about how ketamine can affect you A short video clip with a case study about addiction and the consequences of taking the drug There are no written activities in this session only discussion tasks but it could easily be lengthened to last a whole lesson. The video clips are both downloaded so they will never disappear! This session was received well by the students and covers an important part of modern day drug education.

This is a 60-90 minute lesson on Social Action by taking a detailed look at the Birmingham Pub Bombings in 1974 and the Birmingham Six who were unlawfully imprisoned. This was originally a Year 10 Citizenship lesson but is suitable for upper KS3 - KS5 (Ages 14-18, Years 9-13) and could be part of the Religious Education, PSHE or Citizenship curriculum. This is a 60-90 minute lesson about social action. It is in an RE & Citizenship scheme of work exploring different ways people help the community. It focuses on Christianity and the work of food banks and street pastors. This session can also help towards the AQA Religious Studies A GCSE in the Christian Practices paper but does not have any specific exam focus. It includes: Picture Analysis of a food bank The Parable of the Sheep & Goats Teachings of the Parable of the Sheep & Goats An introduction to street pastors 2 video clips about street pastors (downloaded so they will never disappear) An introduction to food banks 2 videos about food banks (downloaded so they will never disappear) An activity to design their own organisation combining street pastors and food banks True and false quiz for a plenary task Extension tasks with a discussion and extra video links This lesson is fully narrated although this can easily be changed by deleting the icon on each slide if you would prefer it not narrated.
