Transforming Functions homework or revision resource

Transforming Functions homework or revision resource

(1)
This resource is accompanied by an answer document. It is aimed at Higher ability students who have been taught to recognise graphs of other functions and to translate, stretch and reflect functions. The questions are challenging and progress throughout the 4 pages in terms of difficulty, and they provide comprehensive practice for the new Curriculum. A grading system based on the new GCSE specification is suggested, but this resource would be equally useful in the US. The paper can be printed onto a single A3 folded sheet and there are a total of 60 marks. It can be used as a homework or a revision resource, or to assess general understanding at the end of the topic with plenty of extension and differentiated content available.
Algebraic Expressions homework or revision resource

Algebraic Expressions homework or revision resource

(1)
This resource is accompanied by an answer document. It is aimed at students who have been taught algebraic expressions, including collecting terms, multiplying out brackets, factorising and simplifying quotients. The questions include work on perimeter, area, volume and arithmetic sequences.
Ratio and Proportion homework or revision resource

Ratio and Proportion homework or revision resource

(1)
This resource is accompanied by an answer document. It is aimed at students who have been taught to solve problems involving ratio and proportions, proportional change, and successive proportional change. The questions include proportions within real life contexts, such as taxation, and other cross-curricular contexts including scale factor enlargement.

French Linear Programming problem: Qui habite dans la montagne?

(1)
This is a problem solving activity where students must follow the clues given in French to complete a table and decide which of the 5 people lives in the mountains. It should take between 20 to 30 minutes for students to solve and is aimed at students who have been learning French for at least a couple of years. The solution is provided on the second page.
Angles homework or revision resource

Angles homework or revision resource

(1)
This resource is accompanied by an answer document. It is aimed at students who have been taught to solve problems involving recognising, measuring and drawing angles, working with bearings, angle calculations, circle geometry, and some basic trigonometry work.
Fractions: Addition, Subtraction and Division

Fractions: Addition, Subtraction and Division

(1)
This worksheet builds an understanding of fractions based on 'cups' and encourages students to consistently ensure fractions have the same denomination (determined by the denominators) in order to add, subtract and divide (make groups or piles).
Original SAT Maths practice paper for ages 10 to 11 covering levels 3 to 6
silvestertimsilvestertim

Original SAT Maths practice paper for ages 10 to 11 covering levels 3 to 6

(1)
These write-on papers cover a wide range of problems that are well presented and easy to mark; they comprise non-calculator and calculator assessments with questions ranging in difficulty from old Level 3 to old Level 6 based on the UK levelling system that has now been replaced. While 'levels' have been replaced, the monitoring document provides a means to evaluate the progress of a cohort or class of students, to identify strengths and weaknesses, and to evaluate progress. For the age group, results which are determined as 'level 5c' or above are above national average. Level 6 would indicate 'Gifted and Talented' students in comparison to the year group, and Level 3 would identify students in need of further support and intervention.
The four operations: practice with integers, fractions, decimals, surds, algebraic terms

The four operations: practice with integers, fractions, decimals, surds, algebraic terms

(1)
This worksheet is a good starter activity, or the basis of a longer lesson. The key aim is to apply a consistent understanding of each of the four operations; addition, subtraction, multiplication and division, regardless of the topic area. For addition, subtraction and division, the 'denomination' of each term needs to be the same. For example; 4a + 2a, 4a - 2a, and 4a / 2a are all straight forward provided we understand that + means 'get some more', - means 'take some away' and divide means 'put into groups of... or piles of'. For multiplication, we can use 'logical language'; eg 2a x 3b = 6ab hence 2 'root3' x 3 'root 5' = 6 'root 3' 'root 5', which of course can be simplified to 6 'root 15'. Further explanation of this approach to the four operations is provided in the Maths 'Help Booklet' which I have authored and is available for free from the TES site.
