I am currently a Head of Modern Languages in a large secondary school in the North East Of England. I also work with the local University with PGCE MFL students, an area of my work I thoroughly enjoy. I am passionate about teaching and learning, and have a particular interest in the teaching of grammar and of literary texts to develop reading, writing and listening skills. I am currently working on developing a range of resources to support the study of Le Petit Nicolas and the series of books.

This is to go along with Studio 2 , unit 2 , J'adore paris , hence the title and reinforces the activities in the En Plus section. I have made notes at the bottom of each slide which suggest activities for the slide and the aim of this activity is not only to guide students to use both tenses accurately but to also show them the importance of other grammatical aspects such as the use of time expressions, connectives and opinions, as well as sentence development.

Used with a year 8 group to teach them the future, tried to offer slides and worksheets with this to get them thinking about the construction, rather than me telling them.

the wheel ! My students love it ! try it to try and see who remembers what, the numbers could be allocated to students who are picked to answer questions about the lesson or could be hiding a question about the lesson. Can be class or peer activity ! Bonne chance

Please follow the link on youtube ( pink martini ou est ma tete official video ) Lovely song for the past tense, parts of the body and even the direct object pronoun. The cards are for pupils to show as they hear the matching idea in the song. I have now added the audio file, I hope it works

There are many ways to use this and I have explained on the worksheet. Students could dictate the text to each other to focus on spellings, then could mime and memorise ( talk for learning ) , translate and change the time frame of the text. Any feedback appreciated.

The text is directly taken from the brilliant website les petits citoyens and I made a power point activity with suggested activities to exploit this text from this authentic French online magazine. The last two slides can support in generating a debate on the advantages and disadvantages of Smartphones. U

A presentation to help students develop their reading skills and vocabulary on this sensitive issue. Can lead to interesting debates and be used cross-curricular. The text is from lepetitcitoyen.fr website which I strongly recommend.

Just designed this for y11 but could be adapted for any year group , any age, the reconstruction of the song can be differentiated as I made it harder for A/A* candidates by cutting more bits of the song, whereas I did leave bigger blocks for C candidates.

Just a bit of culture, watch the clips, use for dictation, translation of texts and to develop listening skills. I have put some vocabulary of the various steps of the lesson to help and also a simple writing frame on the last slide to support writing

L'imparfait-The Imperfect tense in French. Formation and activities to practise

This is designed for an introduction to this tense with my year 8. We have used it before but we now need to understand how it works so students become independent in building and using this tense themselves. Any comments are welcome. The vowel gap fill activity can be used for pair work, for speaking and or writing. Students have to fill in the gaps ( stars ) with vowels only and then they could use the grid as support in speaking tasks. I hope this is useful to colleagues, I am sharing as it has been tried and tested many times .

designed with grade improvement in mind, keeping engagement and motivation through a nice topic ( holiday ) , this will also be used to develop confidence in speaking skills and in conjunction with mini whiteboards. I am now adding three differentiated controlled tasks ( as I have a wide range of ability ) if it helps you ( for AQA ) Now with updated version and correction of accents

I have three boxes ( one green, one pink as could not find orange, one red) In these I place different styles of help and support to help writing in lessons or even when setting homework. I would place the translation in the green box, the french clues in the pink box and the english clues in the red box.
