This is a really inspiring, interactive, fascinating, fun and creative lesson for students of all ages, touching on the following aspects of this most amazing painter Johannes Vermeer Including: A Power point and print resource that can be stretched over 2 - 3 hours/lessons, with 2 excellent activities for experienced and new teachers and an excellent cover resource! • A to do starter activity • An excellent artist factsheet and picture to copy for students to complete, with exemplars included • Thoroughly researched and detailed history of the painter • Comparison of his style to other Dutch artist, considering his contribution to art history • A strong theme of literacy and art history throughout • Links to other relevant artists, style and movements • Art theory and technology that artists have used to replicate photorealistic imagery explained. • A 2nd starter activity with literacy and key words: ‘Chiaroscuro’ • An amazing step by step animation of how to copy ‘The girl with the pearl earring’ by Vermeer in colouring pencils, using Grid and ‘Grisaille’ technique • AFL: students use WWW and EBI throughout to self-assess on 1st activity - success criteria provided • Home learning activity for students I really hope you and your students enjoy this lesson as much as I enjoyed putting it together. I really love Vermeer and I hope you will too! Please leave a positive comment if you liked this resource! Keep your eyes peeled - I will be posting more artist lessons and a final piece project based on this series!
