New Zealand Handwriting – lower case alphabet a-z

(0)
Printing practise activity sheets for lower case letters a-z. Suitable for NZ junior classrooms. The font used is ‘NZ Basic Script’. The letter shapes are the same as those recommended in the NZ Ministry of Education Handbook – ‘Teaching Handwriting’. 14mm lines with a 7mm dashed line. The pages can be made into a workbook if you wish. A slightly larger left margin has been used to allow for stapling and two choices of title page are provided. Made on A4 size paper. Included: ♦ 26 pages: a-z alphabet ♦ Title pages (2 different layouts with either boy or girl graphic) Activities on each worksheet: ♦ Write your name. ♦ Circle/highlight the letter in the alphabet string (top of page). ♦ Trace the letter (start here dots are used) ♦ Write the letter (start here dots are used) ♦ Write the letter independently (no start here dots) ♦ Trace the words that start with the focus letter. ♦ Find and circle/highlight/colour the focus letter (always 5). ♦ Draw a picture of something that begins with the focus letter. Māori Alphabet - Drive to the Whare

(0)
A Māori alphabet letter recognition activity for NZ junior students. Print and laminate the sheets and place them together to form a ‘road’. Your students drive a toy car along the road and park at the whare that is the answer to a question you give them. And just because you’ve stopped by and read this description, you get to see that this resource includes more than just the alphabet … Included in this resource: ♦ Alphabet – lower case – all vowels on one page ♦ Alphabet – lower case - jumbled ♦ Alphabet – upper case – all vowels on one page ♦ Alphabet – upper case - jumbled ♦ Numbers – numerals 1-20 - ordered ♦ Numbers – numerals 1-20 - jumbled ♦ Numbers – words 1-10 (tahi-tekau) - ordered ♦ Numbers – words 1-10 (tahi-tekau) - jumbled ♦ Blank template (black and white) for your students to make their own ‘Drive to the whare’ activity. There are 10 whares on each page. Because the alphabet only has 15 letters, I have included the vowels with macrons so that the resource is 2 complete A4 size pages. So what it means by ‘all vowels on one page’ is that there are the 5 vowels on one side and 5 vowels with macrons on the other side of the street. The toy cars are not included in this resource. You don’t have to use cars, you could use trucks, motorbikes, horses, etc. Your students could bring a toy car from home if you don’t have any. Examples of Activities: * Drive your car to a whare where the letter _______ lives. * Drive your car to a whare where the letter that makes the ____ sound lives. * Drive your car to a whare where the letter lives that is at the start of the word ____. * Drive your car to a whare where a vowel lives. * Drive your car to a whare that has a letter that is in your name. * Drive your car to a number that is one more than ‘rima’. * Drive your car to a number that is the answer to 5+3. © Suzanne Welch Teaching Resources

Math Basic Facts – BLACK BELT CHALLENGE

(0)
A basic fact challenge – can your students pass all 10 levels to achieve their ‘Black Belt’ in basic facts? Students are given a time frame to finish a certain amount of questions with 100% accuracy in order to pass a level (time frame and quantity of questions to be decided by each teacher). Each card has the answers on the back so students mark their own work … no extra work for you! Level 1 – White Belt – addition (numerals 0-10) Level 2 – Yellow Belt – subtraction (numerals 0-20) Level 3 - Orange Belt – addition and subtraction Level 4 – Green Belt – addition and subtraction with a missing number or sign Level 5 – Blue Belt – multiplication (0x0 to 12x12) Level 6 – Purple Belt – division Level 7 – Pink Belt – multiplication and division Level 8 – Red Belt – addition, subtraction, multiplication and division Level 9 – Brown Belt - addition, subtraction, multiplication and division with a missing number or sign Level 10 – Black Belt – addition, subtraction, multiplication and division with brackets Included: ♦ 60 different cards for each level (total of 600 cards – just print what you need). ♦ Student recording sheet (use this or just write the answers in a math exercise book). ♦ Certificates – provided in both colour and black/white. ♦ Student celebration sheet (colour the belt as you achieve). ♦ Class tracking sheet. ♦ Teacher notes. ♦ Blank templates to adjust the order of the levels (if desired) – student celebration sheet and class tracking sheet. ♦ Supplementary sheets for US classrooms (the word ‘colour’ changed to ‘color’). What you need to do: Print, cut, fold and laminate the cards. (They need to be folded so the question is on the front and the answer is on the back). Admittedly this takes a bit of setting up, but sit yourself in front of the TV with the laminator and time will go quickly! You will find this resource extremely useful because it caters to such a wide range of ability levels and the cards can be used in many different ways (not just for this black belt challenge). ♦ 10 levels. ♦ 60 cards per level. ♦ 20 questions per card. ♦ Answers are on the back of the card (great for self-marking). ♦ Questions and answers are all numbered 1-20. ♦ All of the cards in each level have the same degree of difficulty. ♦ Size 14 Calibri font is used. NZ Handwriting - letter of alphabet with upper and lower case sorting activity

(0)
Have your little learners practise writing their upper and lower case letters of the alphabet. After they’ve finished the writing they can move on to a cutting, sorting and pasting activity at the base of the worksheet. Here they need to identify 4 upper case and 4 lower case letters and glue them into two groups. Approximately 32 different fonts have been used throughout the activity sheets. Your students will need to use their knowledge of the letter shapes to group them successfully. Where the letters look the same (eg c, p, x) they’ll need to look at the size to determine which ones are which. Included: ♦ A-Z (one page for each letter) ♦ A-Z (one page for each letter) – with light grey letters for tracing over Please view the images to see the two different formats. There is a space at the top of the sheet for your students to write their name. The font used is ‘NZ Basic Script’. The letter shapes are the same as those recommended in the NZ Ministry of Education Handbook – ‘Teaching Handwriting’. ********************************************************************** © Suzanne Welch Teaching Resources

New Zealand Essential Spelling Words – ‘Letter Box’ Activity Sheets

(0)
A great set of 60 activity sheets to help your students learn to spell the NZ essential spelling words from lists 1-8. Each letter of the alphabet is represented by one of 8 box shapes. Your students will determine what the mystery word is by looking carefully at the size and shape of the letters. Teaching aids are included to help you teach this. Your students can either write on the activity sheets or they can write the answer in their exercise book (questions are numbered to assist with this). If you put the sheets in a plastic sleeve and pop the answer sheet behind it, your students will be able to mark their own work ... perfect! Plus it cuts down on photocopying. The font used is ‘NZ Basic Script’. The letter shapes are the same as those recommended in the NZ Ministry of Education Handbook – ‘Teaching Handwriting’. Each shape of the box matches the style of the letters in this font. For example, there is a ¾ height box for the letter ‘t’. These activity sheets are for sight words at the Yellow and Blue level. A total of 68 activity sheets. Students trace the focus word, have a go at writing it, and then cut the letter tiles and paste them into the empty boxes. There are additional letter tiles for words that are 1-5 letters in length. Students will need to sort out which letters they need to keep to make the word. A great activity for working on fine motor skills. Made on A4 size paper (landscape orientation). Two worksheets per sheet. Worksheets are A5 size.
