An assembly looking at why we should celebrate black history. The assembly highlights important black figures, such as Frederick Douglass, Mary Seacole, Lewis Latimer and the Moors, and their contributions to history. The assembly also explores the presence of black people in Britain from the 3rd century to the Victorian era (Beachy Head Lady, Ivory Bangle Lady, John Blanke and Sarah Forbes Bonetta) to highlight how black people were visible in Britain before the Transatlantic slave trade and were more than just enslaved Africans.
