In Week 1, pupils will explore 2D and 3D shapes, focusing on identifying, naming, and describing their properties. Activities will include recognising common 2D shapes such as squares, rectangles, triangles, and circles, and understanding 3D shapes like cubes, cuboids, spheres, and cylinders. Because i taught this unit after addition and subtraction in term two i’ve named it Week 5, but it’s first week of teaching shape in Year 2. Pupils will also learn to describe shapes using mathematical vocabulary, such as “sides,” “vertices,” “edges,” and “faces,” and begin to sort shapes based on their properties. Practical tasks, including hands-on exploration with shape manipulatives and sorting activities, will build their understanding. The three bears, intrigued by her story, team up with Goldilocks to uncover the culprit: a mischievous raccoon who has been stealing their food! Together, they hatch a plan to catch the raccoon in the act, leading to an unexpected friendship and a new adventure in the enchanted woods.
