This is a complete lesson for the displacement of metals based upon the reactivity series. It also includes revision and exam question practice.
This lesson includes;
- Bell work (2 x "explaining "exam questions with model answers)
- Differentiated objectives
- Basic method and results table for a reactivity series investigation
- Model answers to the investigation with discussion
This is a full lesson that investigates how igneous rocks are formed with different sized crystals in them. It can be a stand alone lesson or follow on from another resource on the site that investigates the viscosity of lava.
In this lesson;
- Bell work
- Objectives
- Literacy activity to improve a description
- Investigation into crystal sizes with worksheet
- Applying understanding to a real volcano
- Planning a further investigation into crystal colours
This is a complete lesson that helps students to independently research several effects humans can have on the environment.
It includes;
- Bell work (with key words)
- Differentiated objectives
- Group research and discussion
- Practical investigation into acid rain
- Developing prediction
- Plenary
An interactive activity where students pick a number to reveal a command word they need to define. This can be used with individual students, teams or whenever students are answering exam questions.
This is a full lesson that follows on from the structure of the Earth and investigates how igneous rocks are formed and how the composition of the lava affects the shape of a volcano.
It includes;
- Bell work
- Objectives & Key words
- Modelling igneous rock formation
- Developing descriptions (including DIRT)
- Types of igneous rock
- Investigating the viscosity of lava
- Applying findings to volcano shape
I also have available the following lesson that investigates crystal size in igneous rocks.
This is a complete lesson based in one PowerPoint, it does include slides that can be printed off and used as writing frames if necessary though.
The lesson:
-A review of concentration and the necessary key words.
Develops understanding of writing a plan/method.
Improves exam technique by covering similar questions with mark schemes and model answers.
Other lessons in this topic are available.
This is a complete lesson based in a single PowerPoint, that also includes slides that can be printed off and used for writing frames if desired. The lesson includes:
-Reflection on previous learning about rates of reactions.
-Practice calculating rates of reactions.
-An alternative method from previous lessons for investigating the rate of a reactions.
-Data table with completed example results.
-An introduction to calculating the rate of a reaction from a tangent.
Further lessons from this topic are also available.
This is a complete lesson based in a single PowerPoint, that also includes slides that can be printed off and used for writing frames if desired. The lesson includes:
-Reflection on previous learning about chemical reactions.
-Evaluating methods for the collection of data.
A method and data table for investigating the rate of a reaction.
An introduction to calculating the rate of a reaction.
Further lessons from this topic are also available.
This is a full revision lesson based around answering a 6 mark question.
-Review current understanding of key words and developing a vocab list to use in future answers.
-Improve understanding of what an acid is and how it’s strength is determined.
-Develop a strategy for approaching longer answer questions.
-Use a mark scheme to assess model answers.
-Develop an excellent answer that can also be used as a model for other topics.
Resources include:
-PowerPoint of the lesson including example 6 mark question.
-Key words and definitions match up.
-Model answers.
-Mark scheme.
Also available as part of a bundle with a Biology and Physics 6 mark question.
This is a whole lesson based in a single PowerPoint, the use of mini white boards to provide answers from the start allows for the lesson to maintain a high pace so that practical work can also be completed.
The lesson includes:
Problem solving using prior understanding.
A method and results table for practical work.
Data to practice drawing sketch graphs.
Other lessons in this topic are also available.
A series of questions to test recall for all topics on the AQA Trilogy Paper 1 for Biology, Chemistry, and Physics. Questions come in blocks of 10, with either one or two sets for each topic. These are accompanied by a table for students to track their own progress.
I am currently using these with all my GCSE groups. Students complete the same test at the start of each lesson and record their results. This is repeated until all the class are successful, I then mix up the questions and repeat the process.
Biology, Chemistry and Physics lessons following a similar structure to develop subject knowledge and exam technique.
All lessons include a Powerpoint, key word sorting activity, model exam answers and mark scheme.
A list of questions for all topic in Paper 2, aimed at AQA Combined Science: Trilogy. Each topic has 10 or 20 definitions with a matching key word that can be used in a variety of ways.
A tracker sheet is also included to monitor progress over time.
A series of four lessons that introduce students to investigating and calculating rates of chemical reactions.
Each lesson includes:
-Development of scientific knowledge.
-Investigative work with method and results tables.
The opportunity to improve exam technique.
