Job overview

At Heart of England School, we strive for excellence in everything we do and have a clear, commonly held vision of what we are here to achieve.

Our young people are well cared for and every effort is made to promote their educational and personal development. Hard work and achievement are top of the agenda for everyone.

DEPUTY CURRICULUM LEADER: ENGLISH (TLR 2B)

(FULL TIME, PERMENANT)

REQUIRED FOR MAY HALF TERM 2025 OR SOONER

We are looking for a Deputy Curriculum Leader to support the Curriculum Leader of English to assist in leading the effective, skilled team and to teach KS3, GCSE and A level in English Literature or Language. The successful candidate will possess the skills and attributes needed to successfully support and challenge the English team. Please see the attached job description and person specification for further insight into the kind of candidate we need.

If you are looking for a school with a clear set of values, a visible and supportive leadership team, centralised detention systems and an intelligent approach to accountability then we could be the school for you. At Heart of England we realise that our students can only thrive if our teachers thrive and a tired teacher with unnecessary or unproductive bureaucratic activities is unlikely to be that person. We are trying to create a blueprint for how to make the job manageable and enjoyable, driven by a culture of trust and underpinned by individual integrity. If you would like to see any of our policies before applying (e.g. our assessment policy) then please do ask. Similarly if you would like to see the school, please contact us.

We believe in agency and autonomy for our staff. We believe that the same intellectual curiosity that lead you to want to study your subject at university and then teach it to others is what makes you best placed to make decisions about the way you teach your subject now. We believe that when it comes to learning and teaching our motto, “No One Way … By Design”, encapsulates our philosophy of enabling staff to deliver the best possible outcomes for students in a culture that acknowledges variety whilst grounded in shared values and consistency of approach in our decided essentials.

The subject teams have designed their own respective curriculums for KS3 following the sequence of knowledge and skills they believe to be essential for students as they develop through the years. We've also continued to adapt our behaviour policy with the motto 'Our Way…By Design' showing that shared values, defined habits, consistent routines and clear boundaries are the bedrock of a successful school. We strive to align our practice, rooted in good sense and educational knowledge.  Another thing about us: we're not in to quick fixes or superficial tweaks; we're in it for sustainable excellence. Our vision outlines an ongoing process of continuous improvement and an adaptive, restless drive for the implementation of best practice grounded in educational research.

If you think we sound like the kind of place where you'd enjoy leading then the future you are seeking may well be here.

Heart of England School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and expects all its staff and volunteers to share this commitment. This post requires an enhanced DBS check.

The process of application is as follows:

·        A letter outlining your suitability for the post against the criteria set out in the supporting documentation.

·        Completed application form.

“Students make outstanding progress in the sixth form, reaching standards which are well above the national average in most subjects. There is a rising trend in the percentage of students, including the more-able, gaining the highest grades in both A- and AS-level subjects. Students eligible for free school meals do just as well as their classmates.”
