Algebraic Proof

(40)

A lesson that was used to secure a job. Lesson begins with testing students ability to expand double brackets. Presentation slides scaffolds working out needed for algebraic proof. This is complimented by a matching activity which is followed by a RAG activity, the red having a scaffold to assist students. Please leave feedback and rate!

Lesson begins with 'countdown' styled starter. Proceeds to drawing an enlargement and finding the centre of enlargement. Supported worksheets are attached. Please leave feedback.
Substituting into formulaeQuick View

Substituting into formulae

(25)
Lesson includes starter with LO. Starter tests skills that will be needed for the lesson. The lesson then includes a discussion on the differences between an expression, equation and a formula and then tests the learners ability at substitution. This makes it easier to differentiate learners. This is then followed by a pair matching activity and tiered questions to assess their understanding and progress. Finally the lesson ends with a Bloom's Taxonomy styled plenary. PLEASE leave FEEDBACK and RATE. Thanks :)

Reflections

(49)
Lesson covers reflections over four quadrants. Learners initially identify the equation of the vertical and horizontal lines. Learners then identify how to reflect a shape in the x or y axis. Lesson is consolidated with a plenary which can take place using mini-whiteboards or as a discussion. The lesson doesn't cover y = x. That was covered in the following lesson. Worksheets to support various parts of the lesson. Depending on class ability this can take one to two lessons. Please leave feedback.

Introduction to negative numbers

(29)
- Ordering positive and negative numbers - Addition and subtraction with positive and negative numbers - Slides include link to 'negative numbers cauldron' (this resource is not mine, I downloaded it from another member on TES, apologies as I cannot remember who it was). The SMART resource is mine. - Slides include answers to questions - Include BLOOMs taxonomy questions in a naughts and crosses type plenary. - Tasks are leveled. PLEASE LEAVE FEEDBACK AND RATE.

Angles Rules - Angles on parallel lines

(8)
Lesson covers alternate, corresponding and supplementary angles. Includes starter (with LO), three/four main activities; first of which tests learners understanding of angles on a straight line; (with a worksheet as an extension). Activities are differentiated. The lesson concludes with a Blooms Taxonomy styled plenary. PLEASE leave FEEDBACK and RATE. Thanks :)
Area of rectanglesQuick View

Area of rectangles

(10)
Begins with starter on perimeter and LO. Lesson proceeds to working out the area of rectangles by counting squares, coupled with tiered questions. The lesson then engages students to think of easier ways to find out the area (length x width, base x height) and then differentiates with questions. The last activities engages learners to differentiate between finding the area and perimeter of rectangles. The lesson concludes with a Bloom's Taxonomy styled plenary. PLEASE leave FEEDBACK and RATE.
Perimeter of shapesQuick View

Perimeter of shapes

(9)
Lesson begins with a starter and LO. Encourages discussions about 2D shapes, and working out the perimeter of a shape. Includes differentiated questions which then leads on to finding the missing lengths on the perimeter of a shape; again with differentiated questions. Concludes with Bloom's taxonomy styled questions. Please leave FEEDBACK and RATE. Cheers :)

Translations

(7)
Starter includes a simple 'countdown' game using four operations. The main begins discussing how you would move a point moving from A to B. Class discussion leads towards a universal way to describe the translation (vectors). Eventually axis added. Plenary discusses key words and poses a multiple choice question on translations. Answers can be offered on mini-whiteboards. I received an Outstanding for this lesson by the Head. Please leave feedback. Misconceptions and functional use included in lesson plan. Depending on ability this should take 1 to 2 lessons.

Factors, Multiples, HCF and LCM

(4)
Lesson begins with Prime and Square numbers. Progresses on to multiples & LCM, and then to factors and HCF. Extension is included on the first slide. This took up a whole lesson with one class and they thoroughly enjoyed it. Please leave feedback. This resource may contain materials from other teachers on TES that I have modified for my learners. Tarsia included.

Index laws (Indices)

(5)
Lesson covering all of the index laws. Probably spread over two lessons, but can be used as revision for a single lesson. Each law finishes with differentiated/tiered questions. Have used with a middle set year 9 and top set year 10 class. Please leave feedback.

Surface area of cuboids

(3)
Lesson begins with starter, LO and tests learners ability to work out the area and perimeter of rectangles and triangles. Lesson then investigates how to wrap up Santa's cuboid shaped presents using the least amount of wrapping paper. Consolidates this so students understand they're working out the SA. Lesson then has differentiated activities and ends with a brief plenary for discussion. Please leave FEEDBACK and RATE. Cheers :)

Sequences and patterns

(2)
- Find a rule to describe a sequence - Use a rule to find the numbers of a sequence Includes differentiated activities with kinaesthetic, open activity to begin with; this activity was created by another TES user, apologies as I can not remember whom it was. Please leave FEEDBACK and RATE. Thanks

Includes L.O and starter. Two slides for discussion and two main activities. Finishes off with a game styled plenary played in pairs. Activities are differentiated and graded. Should take one lesson. Please RATE and leave constructive FEEDBACK. Cheers.

Bearings

(1)
Begins with starter & LO é poses a question to engage a discussion which will lead to dialogue about angles é direction é eventually, bearings. Lesson continues with. Students then use their whiteboards to provide AfL to teachers which leads onto differentiated/tiered questions. The second main activity encourages learners to choose a level of challenge and to use the map of the British Isles to find the bearings to a from various locations. Answers are provided. The lesson concludes with a discussion on misconceptions. PLEASE leave FEEDBACK and RATE. Cheers :)

Reverse Percentages (Finding the original amount)

(0)
Comprehensive lesson on finding the original amount. This would be a lesson following compound interest and depreciation as the lesson begins with matching and differentiated activities to consolidate this. Then lesson progresses onto finding the original amount with differentiated worksheets/slides with scaffold provided for students that may find the topic more challenging. Please review and comment. Happy teaching :)

Multiplication using the Grid Method

(1)
This is suitable for lower ability students although can be differentiated for core classes. Lesson begins discussing how to multiply larger numbers and partitioning of numbers. Learners gain practice of grid method (word doc.). Then in pairs learners answer colored questions, one at a time. Questions are tiered and learners must show full working out (whiteboards are good for this). When they gain a correct answer with clear working they're awarded points. Winners awarded a prize. This will take a whole lesson. Please leave feedback.
