PPT with activities and worksheet with ample opportunity for students to meet the new language, manipulate and make language their own.
Do Now:
Students are to translate 1-5 into English and 6-10 into Spanish to recap the vocabulary that they learned from last lesson (see my Beginners Spanish lesson “Los saludos”).
Choral repetition:
Students are to listen to the teacher’s pronunciation and repeat.
Choral repetition games (ideas!): Splat, Beat the Teacher, pronunciation competition between the two sides, guess the correct image, translation dictation exercise where teacher calls out a word/phrase in English and students are to write the Spanish and vice versa.
Fill-in the gaps with the correct letters.
Match-up task: Students are to match the Spanish with the English equivalent.
Dialogue:
Teacher to model the dialogue with a student. Then, students are to create their own dialogue with their partner.
Independent work:
Part 1: Vocabulary - students are to find the words in the wordsearch, then they are to translate them.
Part 2: Translation - (i) students are to reorder the sentences, then translate them into English.
- (ii) students are to translate the sentences into Spanish.
Plenary: Students are to close their books and have their arms crossed. They will have 10 seconds before the sentence disappears on screen. Once it has disappeared, they are to write each sentence down.
Challenge: See if they can translate the words/phrases into English too in the time allocated.
