This slide deck provides memory retrieval opportunities covering the functions of education and key vocabulary used to discuss the functions of education from a Functionalist and a Marxist perspective. It also recaps Bowles & Gintis and discusses possible criticisms of the Marxist view.

The slides include tasks, model paragraphs and opportunities for students to plan and consider their responses in a structured way.

There are 29 slides, culminating in a student task to write a profound evaluation of the core function of education, considering the views covered in the lesson.

A good combination of memory retrieval and exam skills in order to develop students at all levels of ability. Ideally this lesson would be used after teaching the functionalist and Marxist views of education, but could be tweaked and used as delivery.
