N.B. This lesson is designed to work in preparation for translation from Spanish into English, centering on Section C Translation in the new Edexcel Spanish GCSE specification. This can be used as well for the AQA exam board as they also have a translation section from Spanish-English.
- Lesson includes many translation strategies and tips, but focuses on developing the skill of 'naturalisation' in English (i.e. translating to ensure that the English sounds correct and natural, without adding or removing information from the source text).
- Shows students how to practically use the skill of naturalisation through step-by-step tasks.
- Includes tips and examples of how to translate more challenging language, such as Spanish place and food names.
- Features differentiated tasks for both Foundation and Higher exams.
- Lesson includes a new GCSE-style translation task (SP-EN) with an area for peer evaluation comments and with respective mark schemes.
- PowerPoint slides provide comments for the teacher with explanations on how each task might be delivered and any vital information to support the students.
- Questions for students to consider throughout concerning how they translate to encourage meta-cognition of their steps for translation.
