Looking for a fun way to practice solfege with your elementary music students? Turn your music lessons into games! This is board game will help students to practice reading solfege while having fun. Use for centers, workstations, traveling to the teachers’ classrooms, melody review, or sub plans.
Students earn lemons (points), they will need to sing patterns, put notes onto the three line staff, identify notes on the staff, and more.
There are two versions of the game-- a printable version AND a Google Slides version. They are played the same way. I like to use the digital version first (with students on teams), then use the printable version in centers.
To play:
Students roll a die (a Youtube video embedded into the game for the digital).
They will move their piece that many spaces.
Take a challenge card-- they will either need to read the pattern, put notes on the staff, identify notes, etc.
If they complete the challenge, they get a lemon (a point!).
The game ends when someone gets to the end of the board game. The most points at the end wins.
There are directions and video directions to help your students.
You can do this whole group by splitting your class into groups. Students could play on their own during centers by sharing devices. They could also play during distance learning-- put them into a breakout group and make sure that they all have access.
TEACHER TIP: Create a copy of the digital game to send to students-- don’t send them your original. This will help make sure that you protect the original.
