Year 5 & 6 Grammar Flashcards have been created to help children understand the definitions that they will come across whilst learning grammar at school. At this age children will be able to read the grammar cards by themselves. These tasks could be used as a review game at end of term.
Children should be encouraged to cut out the definitions and then cut out the words and see if they are able to match the definitions with the titles. Once they have been matched together the children could tick the two cards together back to back and used them as flashcards.
It might be beneficial for children to review grammar terms from the previous years also.

How Teachers Can Use the “Black History Flashcards” in the Classroom:
156 Flashcards: Print them, cut around them, fold them, stick them down and start using them!
Incorporate into History Lessons for Black History Month: The flashcards cover a wide range of historical figures, events, and concepts relevant to Black history. Teachers can incorporate them into history lessons to supplement the curriculum. For example, when teaching about the transatlantic slave trade, use the flashcards to introduce key individuals and events related to this topic.
Enhance Cross-Curricular Learning: The flashcards can be used at a starting point in various subjects, including English, PSHE (Personal, Social, Health and Economic education), and Religious Education (RE). For example, when discussing Maya Angelou in English class, students can read her poem, “Still I Rise,” and analyse it for its literary significance.
Promote Critical Thinking: The flashcards feature questions and commands that encourage critical thinking and class discussions. These prompts can spark insightful conversations about the impact of historical events on different communities.
Support Independent Research: Encourage students to choose a flashcard topic that interests them and conduct independent research. This can be an excellent opportunity for students to develop research and presentation skills.
Address Sensitive Topics: As mentioned, some flashcards cover sensitive topics. Teachers should review the cards beforehand and select appropriate content for their students’ age and maturity level. These cards can be used as tools for discussing challenging historical events and fostering empathy.
Create Interactive Activities: Design interactive activities, such as debates, role plays, or creative writing exercises, based on the content of the flashcards. For instance, students can reenact historical moments or write letters from the perspective of a historical figure.
Alignment with the National Curriculum:
History: The flashcards align with the History National Curriculum for both KS2 and KS3 for black history. They cover topics related to significant historical events, individuals, and societal changes.
Religious Education (RE): The flashcards delve into the contributions of the Black community, making them suitable for RE lessons that explore different faiths and their impact on society.
PSHE: The flashcards can facilitate discussions around diversity, inclusion, and the importance of understanding different cultures and histories.
Overall, the “Black History Flashcards” serve as an excellent resource to promote cultural awareness, critical thinking, and a deeper understanding of Black history in the context of the National Curriculum. Teachers can adapt them to suit their specific classroom needs and provide students with a holistic and engaging learning experience.
