The Homeworkabot should appeal! A simple explanatory text and support worksheets, frames, teaching notes and templates to ensure children produce good explanatory texts themselves. The task is a fun one and should motivate whilst making pupils aware of the features of the text type.

This is a persuasive brochure for a Star Wars World Theme Park, written to model how to use persuasive techniques, like appealing adjective and imperative (bossy) verbs. There are detailed teaching notes and a scaffold frame for children to write their own theme park brochure on a theme of their choice and a blank brochure with theme park pictures is also provided, if required. There is also an extension task to develop further ideas for the theme park website, which could be done as an individual, or group, speaking and listening or writing task. There is also a support worksheet and a theme park ideas worksheet, too, for pupils needing more help.

Build Vocabulary - Word a Day - pictures to build word knowledge

This is a free sample of a Word a Day resource that I have made with over 600 words. The bought resource is a big enough word a day collection for 3 and a half school years. There is a related picture and synonym to aid comprehension. I hope it will be a way for whole schools to increase the vocabulary of their pupils, through use in lessons, newsletters or assemblies. Aimed at KS3, KS4 and KS5 but the word a day may also have some application with able pupils in upper KS2.
