I wrote this 5 week scheme of work for my GCSE English group. They were struggling with narrative writing and so I wanted to inspire with them with some effective short story writing. So who better than the master of the macabre - Roald Dahl? In this series of lessons students read a range of his stories and many of the tasks are linked to revising key skills that will be used in their Language exams. Included here are the Week 4 lessons. There is a PowerPoint presentation to guide students (and teachers) through all of the activities. This week’s lessons uses Dahl’s story The Umbrella Man and covers language skills for Paper 1 Questions 3 and 5. A copy of the story is included. Week 1 lessons and an overview of the whole unit of work is available as a free resource. Additional weeks, along with the stories, can be purchased separately or as part of a bundle.
