Penguin Christmas Addition is a simple interactive whiteboard game designed in PowerPoint to support the development of early addition skills. Children are invited to count the number of spots shown on the domino (developing both their perceptual and conceptual subitising skills). Children click on the correct number card to show how many spots altogether. The total number of spots is revealed with the addition calculation. This activity works well with the whole class by inviting the children to write the matching addition calculation on their mini whiteboards and calculate the answer. A simple IWB Maths Game to support the development of children’s early conceptual subitising and addition skills within ten. Children are presented with various domino arrangements (total amounts from six to ten) and say the number of spots they can see altogether. Help Dino the Dinosaur to subitise the spots. Children calculate the total amount of spots and click on the matching number card to reveal the answer. Links well with Spring Term WhiteRose Maths Units Growing 6,7,8 and Building 9 and 10 (though is not endorsed by WRM). This IWB Maths game works well as part of whole class teaching and learning or as a small adult-led guided group session. Children can write the addition calculation on small whiteboards or show the answer with their fingers. This game helps to consolidate children’s conceptual subitising skills and addition within ten. This game is designed in PowerPoint and therefore easily editable (24 slides in length and fully interactive). Ideal for sharing on the interactive whiteboard as part of whole class teaching and learning. Great as a mental warm up / starter activity. Children are presented with 1 to 5 hearts in a variety of different arrangements. Children are encouraged to subitize (instantly say the number of hearts without counting) and click on the matching number. Fifteen different arrangments are shared in the slides. At the end of the slides 12 smaller flash cards showing different arrangements for 5 are shown to explore different ways of arranging the hearts. This leads to an exploratory activity during independent learning where children can investigate all the different ways of arranging 5 chocolate hearts in a box with nine spaces.

A simple interactive white board activity/maths game that is great for modelling counting back from 10, The slides are fully interactive and the activity links well with White Rose Spring term planning session 6 “Counting back from 10 - Ten in a Bed”. Children are presented with a variety of different cartoon animals in the bed and explore what would be one less by counting back from 10 using the Ten in a Bed nursery rhyme. Following this different numbers of animals are presented in the bed. Children need to count the number of animals in the bed and click on the matching digit card. Larger images of all the animals included in the Powerpoint are included at the end of the slides. These can be made into puppets which can be printed off and laminated for exploration in whole class provision or works well as a small group activity. Children can use their puppets to show how many animals are in the bed and practice counting back from 10.
